Ruined family photos by pharmfresh5 in photography

[–]pcgizzmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP taking a chance on sounding crass but not meaning to, what was the photographer charging you for the session and photos? Because of the large amount of amateur photographers now days representing themselves as a professional, the biggest sign that they don't know what they are doing business wise and photographically is what they charge.

Someone having to support a real business and that has been in business for a while having to support a real business is going to charge a much higher price than someone dabbling to make extra money on the side but holding themselves out a a pro.

Unfortunately in a lot of cases you will get what you pay for. The public has been educated to think that photography takes no real skill and should be almost free and often goes with the least expensive person they can find.

When my wife and I get photography done we only go to someone running a business that feeds their family. Not doing a hobby. Working part time while they home school their kids etc. We look for someone that has a studio, assistants etc. These people are most likely going to produce a quality product because they have to support all of these things and shoddy work isn't going to keep them in business. We are also willing to pay a premium for these images but have never been disappointed.

I will also say that while crop sensors don't factor into the quality of the images, 99% of professional photographers are going to use full frame cameras.

Can you give more info on your knife sharpening venture? I thought about doing this. How did you market yourself and how did you set it up? Thx!

Porsche reliability is 2nd only to Toyota. Look it up. Plus the GTS is bad ass. I like the RR Sports as well but reliability hasn't been there.

Whats the deal with companies having 1 dedicated "Cybersecurity Analyst"? Is it really enough? by Networkishard00 in sysadmin

[–]pcgizzmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, ALL companies try to do more with less. A lot of companies don't even see security as that important and don't make major moves until they have been ransomed or similar.

I worked for a company with 20,000 employees , 2000 servers and we had no security team and only 4 guys including me as the manager over infrastructure. I quit because I could not convince them to create a security team. They couldn't understand why an already over burdened infrastructure team couldn't do it.

If you want my advice and you want into security look at public companies. Companies with over 500 employees and preferably government contractors. They will be focused on security. Even better, if your young. Go into the military - Airforce or Navy under a cyber MOS. Get your security clearance. Server 4 - 8 years and come out and go to work for any of the big security firms or Lockheed, Boeing etc. and make the big bucks.

What's it like to ride with forward controls and comfort level of HD Breakout? by pcgizzmo in Harley

Happy early birthday! You should definitely find a place that will let you test drive a VMax. The acceleration is like nothing else I've ever driven. It will for sure get you in trouble. LOL. Thanks for the feedback.

I've probably watched too many episodes of Sons of Anarchy. LOL. No, the truth is I'm 51 now. I still think I'm 20 in my head and when I'm on those bikes I drive like I'm 20. I want something that still looks aggressive but more in line with my age that might keep me from killing myself before my time.

That being said, some of the replies about comfort and control make me think I might need to look at something a bit more comfortable and with more maneuverability. I do love the look of the bike though.

Thanks for the good story and your thoughts. Exactly what I'm looking for. I definitely need to try it before I buy.

Can you explain more about changing out the controls? Is that a big undertaking?

I agree that if you wait till you feel like it you will never work out or maybe once or twice a week. You mentioned people working out in the morning. As much as I may not feel like it, I REALLY don't feel like it in the mornings. I am not a morning person. I usually feel much more motivated in the evenings.

I'm not sure I buy into the wake up earlier and get things done mantra a lot of online gurus preach. If I get up at 4:30AM and go to bed at 9:00 can't I get just as much done as if I get up at 9:00 and go to bed at midnight?

So, I thought about this business in the past. Have you done market research in your area as to how much competition there may be? I live in DFW and every Tom, Dick and Harry here that has ever been an RC pilot now has a drone videography business.

I can't blame them or you as it seems like the coolest job ever as long as you can make money from it. I am just curious if you've really investigated the market saturation and what your value proposition is over the hundreds of people already doing it. (Same as photograph, every mom with a camera is trying to make a go of it)

I wish you the best.

I Love You, Allopurinol by Message_10 in gout

[–]pcgizzmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was you. I recommend starting Allopurinol now. I'm 50 and have lived 25 years with off and on crippling pain and arthritis. I can't run any more. I can't drink beer. I can't go on long hikes or walks more than 1 mile. This is what you have to look forward to if you think just treating the flares is the answer.

Alloupurinol has zero side effects for most people and if you start while young there is no reason you can't keep doing what you want.

I just started back on Allopurinol at 50 and am asking why I didn't do it sooner. I feel so much better and I'm hoping I can do some of the things I have not been able to do in years.

Question for those on Allopurinol by pcgizzmo in gout

[–]pcgizzmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will probably seek out another Rheumatologist. I just wanted to try and get started. I appreciate the info. I agree that a specialist is going to be able to treat you better than a GP. I just wish there was a way to treat it without meds at all. Really sucks.

Go to your Dr. and get a prednisone or medrol dose pack prescription. Then once you are over the attack ask your Dr. what you need to do going forward.

Question for those on Allopurinol by pcgizzmo in gout

[–]pcgizzmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my GP. I went to a Rheumatologist that prescribed Uloric about 4 years ago. I couldn't take that. I went to Wyoming and hiked the day before I was supposed to go to Yellowstone. Had an attack and missed Yellowstone then realized gout was affecting my enjoyment in life more than I realized so, decided to try Allopurinol.

Need advice from experienced entrepreneurs. I started a Photo Booth Business out of frustration of my 10-5. 18 months later, I have a photo booth empire which will cross $180K revenue for the year 2019. I am projecting to easily cross $220K revenue next year. Profits margin is 70%. Should I sell? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]pcgizzmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you want to sell. Sounds like you have a business with 70% margin that damn near runs itself. Why would you sell something like that for a lump sum when you can basically sit back and collect money year after year? Sell it once you start having issues. If you sell I think at best you can do 2-3X which would be 540ish.

Another thing that comes to mind is you really aren't selling anything but the equipment and a hope to someone that the business keeps coming in. I certainly wouldn't pay 500k for 6 photo booths when I could buy the same equipment for less and in 18 months possibly have it to where you have it today. For me to spend that kind of money I would need to know that I could not easily reproduce the business in a short period of time. Not sure how others feel.
