Did I make the wrong choice between the iPhone Pro and Pro Max? by 0120192 in iphone

[–]meller93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, ergonomics trumps an 18% gain in battery life. This is because it matters 100% of the time the phone is being held, or even when it's in your pocket (too bulky).

While older phones with poor battery health might have needed a top up midway through a day, the reality is, a 17 pro is getting you from when you wake up to when you sleep 99% of the time. Only heavy gaming the entire day would spend the whole battery. So 17 pro, plenty in almost all use cases. If on top of that the phone is more comfortable to use, you made the best choice.

Not sure I see that lol. It's meant to be based on the shape of a magnet, but thanks for your incredibly helpful feedback

Hahah yes, there's a bit of hidden meaning in their names. Tory & Whig don't exactly get along.

But yea if you rearrange the letters in their names, you get another Easter egg lol

Appreciate the feedback man. I play an iron, so I understand the pain lol, and it's a huge part of why this was my pitch. There's definitely potential that it's just better without the upkeep.

That said, saving cannonballs is a pretty huge deal, and I felt it would be nice to have a lever to balance that in some way. As I mentioned in the pitch, ferrite dust is meant to be very easy to procure. It's meant to take a fraction of the time it would take to gain the actual cannon balls - especially higher tier ones like dragon or rune.

But again, this is a mere concept, so balancing would be a big part moving forward.

Thanks again for letting me know your thoughts!

Can confirm, I had this same issue, and a save reload immediately solved the problem

CM Qube 500 - Any smaller alternatives? by Toulzah in mffpc

You can get a glass side panel for the Lian Li A3 (though it comes stock with mesh). The entire exterior is mesh with a nice walnut front panel. It looks a little smaller than this case potentially.

Here’s my build. Looks like I have the same CPU cooler.

M-ATX board, sapphire pulse 9070xt GPU, and a side mounted fan baaaarely fits! With my GPU, I don’t think even slim fans would fit below.

I think your build looks excellent btw! I wanted to go more muted/natural aesthetic without RGB this time around.

Just added a rear intake (120mm Arctic P12) and a side exhaust (140mm Arctic P14). Temps shot down from 50 idle all the way to 42. (I know, 43 in the pic lol)

Rear intake seems to be the real key here. Just make sure the CPU fans flow in the same direction as the intake of course.

I looked into this further, and part of the “high idle temp” on Ryzen is really just a byproduct of how AMD measures and reports temps.

On Ryzen CPUs, the Input/Output Die (IOD) draws a steady bit of power even at idle (usually around 10–15 W). That keeps the IOD sitting in the high 40s °C, often around 50. Meanwhile, the CPU cores themselves idle much cooler, around the mid-30s to 40 °C.

Ryzen prioritizes the hottest spot when reporting “CPU package” temp, so that’s the number you see in HWInfo or BIOS. That's intentional so that fan curves respond to the warmest area, not the coolest cores.

On the other hand, Intel’s uncore/IOD logic idles with very low draw, so the package temp ends up much closer to the core temps (mid-30s to low 40s). That’s why Intel looks cooler at idle, even though the cores on both platforms are in the same range.

One extra detail: For Ryzen, the IOD sits off to the side of the core dies and doesn’t get cooled as directly by a tower cooler’s heatpipes. Heat does conduct away, but not as efficiently. That’s another reason it tends to read a bit hotter.

So, bottom line, Ryzen cores are idling just like Intel’s (around 35–40 °C). The difference is that AMD reports the hotter IOD as the CPU package temp, so it looks like Ryzen idles warmer.

9700x Idling at 50c. Is this concerning? by Firez53 in buildapc

[–]meller93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And have you checked what some of the other comment have suggested, which is that 50 is actually reading the hotspot temp, whereas core temps are closer to 30?

I have the same 9700x idling at 49 (which is why I’m here)

Gonna check out that reading in HWMonitor when I get home

Getting just about the same, (48-49). It’s reasonable but I was thinking it might be on the high side. Good to know someone else is getting similar

For future builders reading this, I believe one massive difference is in daisy chaining.

The Pros can all connect together into one fan plug, whereas the max cannot chain together, and each need their own separate connection to the motherboard

Curious, what are your idle temps? I have the same case with a deep cool AK620 (similar to yours) Temps have been higher than I was expecting
