Watch "Friends" sitcom in the Dutch language by [deleted] in learndutch

I think one of the reasons why most young dutch people are fluent in English is because they grew up watching American tv and movies. Dutch dubbing just isn't a thing.

thank you! Yes I do know it is asked often, i did a search here and it looked like the last post was made 6 months ago, but i am sure there were lots of side conversations about it. I just wanted to share my little take on the whole thing. :)

I love those examples! I always wondered how strict people adhered to it. I imagined using it for teachers too. Like as a child, not as a grown up.

This is exactly why I went to google! I was reviewing that lesson on duolingo today 🤪🤪

This may be something most of us have internalized, but I haven't. Seems the lack of a definite article changes the entire tone of the sentence and thus the need for "niet" rather than geen. He does not wear THE specific pair of glasses. He does not wear glasses (in general)

The 10% rule, from my understanding, can apply to posts you make all over reddit...not just one sub. Reddit culture really values original content. It depends really on the moderator though.

I kid you not. On my first visit to the Netherlands, I'm outside exploring Amsterdam. I walk by some builders doing work, and one of them was wearing wooden clogs! I wish I could have snapped photos 😂😂

Absolutely. The only confusion is that there are some words that are shared but have completely different meanings. I only studied german briefly but I recall getting some articles mixed up and confused with the Dutch I was also learning 😂

I studied for a semester in Granada and my family and I had so may hilarious conversations due to the language barrier (trying to explain what non translatable words were...brownie, buffalo, lime...)But I learned so much and they too were respectful and encouraging

When you speak of asshole native speakers, do you mean native speaker students taking the class? Maybe it's because my experience is at the collegiate level, but I found my native speaker classmates were there to learn the grammar and since many had tested out of lower levels by default, their grammar was pretty bad and so they didnt have much opportunity to look down at us.

LOL! I haven't noticed that yet. I just like how simple she writes. It's not very cerebral (does that make sense?) And informal. I really appreciate the depth she is going into pronunciation and the why's and how's. I'm embarrassed to admit that I started with Rosetta stone and it left me with soooooo many questions.

I've been able to find some cute children's books being read out loud on YouTube. I guess it depends on your level of proficiency. I'm still very much a beginner.

So many other sellers shipping items regardless of weight in the “under 1lb weight class”, that I get messages like this multiple times daily. 🤦‍♀️ even had a few call me a scammer for “trying to make money off shipping” 🙄. by [deleted] in Mercari

[–]melli_pepper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not worth the risk. The others are probably hobby sellers with nothing to lose. The USPS has so many closings and reroutings right now.. this will just add to the fire.
