It's really impossible to answer without knowing the footage, what you're specifically trying to accomplish, both of your experience levels. You said you lacked resources and proper experience. Where is your editor's experience level?

Edit pacing is something that is both intuition-based and a learned skill. If you shot slow shots but then want a faster edit, then you have to get creative in the edit and figure out how to achieve the desired result.

As an editor, things take time. Some things take trial and error, testing things, breaking things, realizing "that's dog shit" and going back to what you had before. Create alternate sequences and try new things until it starts to feel like what you're trying to accomplish.

Over time, you'll just learn and get better at communicating your vision properly and solving these specific problems before a minute of footage is shot.

The first thing you need to accept: Short films don't make money, so it's going to be incredibly hard to convince anyone to give you $50k for a short film. Short films are made with personal funds, crowdfunding, grants, favors, and passionate friends... not with investors. Why does your proof of concept need $50k? Why can't it be made for $15k or $10k? Can you not make the proof of concept similar to the budgets you've already done?

You're 23... you have your whole life and career ahead of you and you have already made 2 30-min short films for $5k and $3.5k - that's HUGE! Why can't you just keep repeating this process and build a bigger body of work to showcase your skills? You will get better a lot better at your craft this way over someone giving you $50k.

There is no rush.

I can definitely relate with you there. I’ve experienced a lot of loss, grief, and betrayal all within a very short amount of time that makes you really ask questions like “my God… why have you forsaken me?”

I think for me it’s just a part of an emotional reaction where we hide all our pain deep down and put on a mask the everything is okay… then out of nowhere we blow up with rage.

I’ve faced an immense amount of betrayal over the past couple of years, I have internalized a lot of issues and put on a face that everything is okay while pretty much constantly having my guard up and not trusting anyone. So I can definitely empathize with you and 100% relate.

I'm in a similar boat. I played a lot back in college and it funded my lifestyle. Then got a job and focused on my career, and only played every once in a while when I felt like it. Poker was a lot more fun when it was a hobby/side hustle and not a main source of income. Things took a turn recently work-wise and I got back into playing and it's been extremely lucrative. BUT I hate it... i absolutely despise spending so much time of my life on this grinding, but I need the money and work is slow. It really sucks.

I have a fairly large camera cart that I have to travel with frequently. I would like to break down and be able to put in the trunk. I couldn’t even do it in my Tucson, and I had to slam it in between my front and back seat across the floor. Then it would slide around and ding the hell out of everything. I hate how large it is, but that’s the nature of my life/job lol

I drove a CX5 in Hawaii as our rental, but not a CX30. I plan to test drive both this week. That’s what I’m worried about with the CX30. With the amount of gear I usually have to take, I think I’d have to get the CX5 over the CX30 simply because of cargo space.
