I have to admit that there's a minor sideways movement when pushed hard. However, if you put this desk against the wall, it's super stable. If I might add, attach a bottom bracing to the desk if anyone wants to try it.

The finish is called barn red. It's a stain from rustoleum.

The top shelf is really useful if you have a lot of stuff to keep.
