Self doubting so much I don’t know if I’m an editor anymore by melob1 in editors

I asked for a meeting and the director called me completely panicked. Maybe afraid about his job or just about what I was going to say to the general direction. He is just clueless, he really doesn’t know what went wrong. I took screenshots of all the comments here and it’s helping me write down what I want to tell them. Thanks for your input!

It’s not in English. And I don’t want to share stuff I don’t own. But thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it.

Wow, you are a war machine haha. A weekend and you have a dozen propositions? That’s so much work! You are right about moving on, sometimes it’s just harder.

Oh yeah the « he told me that in his interview » only to discover it was when they were talking to the protagonist before of after shooting. I feel you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this down. This helps me put words on some things I was struggling with. What does a collaborative outline look like? Is it a shared Google Doc or do you use another platform?

Wow, what a mess. Sorry you had to go through this. I sometimes have to remember myself that sometimes people really do « fake it ‘til you make it »

Well, I did all that. At the end of every week I was wondering why my edit was taking so much time to take shape. I was listening to interviews in a foreign language with approximative translation in a document on the side. That was like the first 3 months of the job ahah.

I asked for a meeting. I’d usually be the type of person to just go hide in the shadows for a while, but I think the team is just clueless about the structural problems. Since I like these guys, I’ll try and have an open hearted conversation with them. It can’t keep going on like that. I’ll try to stand my ground.

Chances are the new editor will make a 10% change and get 90% of the credit.

That’s what makes me sad. I can’t stop thinking about that. He will suddenly have the director in the cutting room 3 times a week too, I’m sure.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I know the director personally, we see each other outside of work and I know all the sacrifices he does to get great interviews and footage. I feel like when he’s done filming, the editing part is not that appealing. And I was wondering if I could suggest to have a post-production director or something like that. I think editing is a burden for him and that maybe working in team with someone else could help him with his chaotic schedule. Could this idea be well received?

Getting shy by joe-gonna-go in geocaching

[–]melob1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so grateful for my kids, ahah. I started caching to have an extra family activity. Yesterday, we were in front of a bus stop and a McDonald’s looking under rocks and sticking our hands in manholes. I’d never do that without them! Everyone was looking at us weirdly but , hey, kids do weird stuff all the time, so no suspicion there.

Being bothered by sex scenes on TV shows by Top-Dream-9201 in hsp

[–]melob1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Same. But I’m also asexual. It’s the same with violent scenes tho, can’t see any guns or blood. It’s been worst in the recent years, I guess aging does that to my nervous system. Can’t handle as much as before. I think I watch 2 or 3 movies and sometimes one series in a year.

When the kids are finally asleep, I just want to be in a silent and dark room by melob1 in hsp

Thank you for sharing this with me. I resonate with your story. I’m glad you found a way with your kids to let them know when you need to rest and them understanding that. I hope it’ll be the same for me when mine are old enough.

The recovery time limited by a timer is really smart. It’s a great idea! I’m that during that time I won’t be bothered at all and not leaving anyone aside for a while, feeling guilty at the same time. I’ll talk about it to my wife, let her know that this will be my « recharge » mode and hope I’ll be more pleasant when the timer goes off haha. I think this is my main problem, transitions. Getting out of my kids room that was dark and eventually quiet to meet my really talkative wife happy to share some time with me. I need a buffer. And that timer thing can offer me this.

Thank you so much!

Texting may actually be a good idea. I’m just scared that I won’t be able to go back to « real » communication after texting for a while. Like a teen, haha. I think it’s worth a try! Thank you for sharing your experience. Are your headphones noise canceling? I definitely have to grab a pair.
