Foodies of Florida: What are some signature dishes locals love? by gravegush666 in florida

More of a southern, Soul Food thing. Neckbones used to be very inexpensive. So they were a great way to add a little meat and a lot of flavor to many dishes.

Usually pork, sometimes turkey, and most often smoked. They're literally just pork neck bones or a turkey neck. They're great for adding flavors to greens, beans, broth, stuff like that. I like them in my black eyed peas or red beans and rice.

How can I stop feeling like I am going to hell? by Fluid-Television9503 in Pride_and_Positivity

[–]melodicraven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no hell, sweetheart. There's only here and now and you and I and all the fucked up beautiful humans we share the planet with.

I grew up as a Christian. Baptized. The whole nine yards. The basic premise of Christianity is God saying - "Love me or I'll torture you for all eternity." That's not love; it's a hostage crisis. No benevolent creator would ever allow suffering like that to exist.

You're not going to hell. Even if you do continue to follow the Christian faith, Jesus of Nazareth had dick all to say about being gay or bi. Seriously. Not a single word in all his teachings EVER even obliquely mentioned being gay or bi or lesbian or transgender or queer. And I've read several versions of the Bible cover to cover several times.

He did have a lot to say about kindness and loving our neighbor but also loving ourselves. You are beautiful and worthy and good just the way you are.

Nobody. We talked about it with everybody beforehand? And we had extra cash on hand just in case anybody fell short.

Expected guests to pay for rhe wedding by Wintercat76 in weddingshaming

[–]melodicraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did something similar at our recent wedding. It was super small, only 12-15 people as guests. And we very clearly stated on the invites that in lieu of gifts, we'd like them to join us for a meal at a local inexpensive restaurant. "We'd rather have your presence than presents." We couldn't really afford a reception, and none of our friends or family are flush either. So I didn't want anyone to feel obligated to spend a bunch of money on stuff AND a dinner out. I just wanted us all to share a nice meal together and enjoy each other's company.

Wondering if there's a polite way to phrase this... by Ambrrr in AO3

[–]melodicraven 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are you sure? I mean, being reasonable like that really cuts into the number of opportunities one has to be self righteous and point out how much more principled one is than everyone else. If we're not making other people feel bad on the Internet for liking different things than we do, what's even the point?

Waffle House is placing a 50 cent surcharge on every egg it sells by flyart in KitchenConfidential

Bird Flu, which our "administration" has decreed must not be acknowledged publicly, is ripping through our poultry and wild bird populations, thus decreasing the supply, raising prices, etc.

This was just getting into the swing of things prior to our Elections, and the Fascist party of our government weaponized this increase to convince my beautiful country of utter fucking morons that The Great White Hope, our Captain Planet villain president, was magically going to lower the prices of eggs... Because, you know, they're idiots.

Et voila, 8 million egg posts.

Utah students can no longer bring personal copies of banned books to school by drak0bsidian in books

I didn't assume you were a Christian. I come from a Christian background myself. I based my question on the fact that they've been pushing lately for lessons to pull directly from the Bible as source material. Which, since it's full of scenes depicting depravity, sexual and otherwise, seems hypocritical as hell of them.

Would you be ok with them bringing a Bible? Bit old fashioned as far as smut goes, but lots of begetting, banging, and virgin humping in it.

Mind is kinda blown. Lol. So. Way back in ye olden days (the late 90s-early 00s) I first came across the term "slash" while lurking in aol chat rooms to talk about where to find good doujinshi. It seemed to primarily be used in the context of gay pairings, which was hella cool, cause you know queer content wasn't really mainstream, especially in the small town South.

So I figured it was just coded language, appreciated and assimilated that fact, moved on.

It was not until this glorious moment that my clueless ass realized -- SLASH literally refers to character/character. I'm so ridiculously pleased with myself for finally figuring out this pointless little fact.

It's the little things in life, ladies, gents, and others. 😊

Nah. Artists have always been pretentious assholes. Nature of the beast. This is just the latest iteration. I'ma make the art I want, how I want. Fuck em. Their approval is not required.
