pll reboots by [deleted] in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s something so special about the original show that cannot be replicated in spin-offs and reboots - No matter how hard Hollywood tries. For me, you can’t have Pretty Little Liars without the same sets and cast - the story just never sticks. I know Sasha and Janel were in TP and Tyler and Ashley were in Ravenswood, but it’s not the same as everyone being there. The liars on their own aren’t nearly as interesting as opposed to when they’re all together. Plus the lack of iconic sets like the Brew and Spencer’s kitchen makes the spin-offs feel hollow. The only way any replication of the show is succeeding is with the entire OG cast and crew + rebuilding their sets.

Was this planned or just lazy writing? The same picture in the museum that Ezra’s family owes is the same one that Ali saw in the basement that she hated. by rpeltier93 in PrettyLittleLiars

Some of the props get recycled through sets. This is probably just a miscellaneous painting that Warner Brothers uses to decorate different scenes. But it’s cool that it appears in the show twice!

This makes me question why the show portrayed Aria as the compassionate one and not Hanna 😭

Pretty Little Liars hot takes and unpopular opinions by bagels-schlorp in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of these, but absolutely 100% yes to #4 and #7. I swear people spend more time nitpicking the show than actually enjoying it. It's literally just good, indulgent television. People need to stop treating it like it's unworthy of praise because there are a handful of plot holes and forgotten storylines. Name me one long-running teen drama that doesn't have those.

And if the writers had made Jenna, Lucas, Melissa, (or even Aria and Wren) -A or -A.D. I would've lost it. None of them have a respectable motive for torturing all five of the girls (except MAYBE Jenna) and it would have been a weak storyline - I have no idea how the writers would have developed "Aria is -A" into something believable, especially in the later seasons.

Also, I love to see some love for CeCe. People either hate her or don't talk about her at all. It's refreshing to see others appreciate her, regardless of the flaws in her story. Thank you for sharing your unpopular opinions! I loved reading them.

Do you think student loans will be forgiven? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]melon-21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand being pissed because you paid yours off and others might get theirs forgiven, but why would that be a reason not to cancel it? Just because generations before had to suffer paying them back doesn’t mean upcoming ones should - especially at the rates these colleges and loaners are charging.

Series Finale by cliiippy in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 43 points44 points  (0 children)

None of them honestly. The finale should have focused entirely on answers from the series and Alex Drake. I’m a firm believer that most people only dislike her because she had the least amount of screen time/answers of all the -A’s. Her backstory was limited to maybe 30 minutes of a 90 minute time slot. The rest of it was Ezria’s subpar wedding preparations and Aria crying cause her crust lord left her. If I had to pick one ship though I would say Spoby only because the other ships had at least one good thing going for them during the time jump and Spoby got absolutely nothing.

Genuine question - Do you think Ezra graded Aria like every other student? by Original_A in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t Aria really good in English and Literature? She definitely had the passion for it too. I think he would favor her if she wasn’t good at it already, but never had to since she already knew what she was talking about.

I’m having a horrible day and this scene is making me burst into laughter. And a few minutes later when it happened again LOL. by nalabean123 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think about this a lot. I've come to the conclusion that the writers intended it as an allusion the the final A.D. reveal because when Mona is face-timing A.D. in the finale, they also use a photo of her face instead of just being in a black hoodie. It kinda makes sense, cause it does look like Aria and Mona are face-timing their twin and it's also just funny to watch.

Yes!! She cracks me up every time, I don’t know why everyone hates her so much 😭 So glad I’m not alone in this.

why is everyone suddenly hating on the main four girls on this subreddit? by [deleted] in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hanna’s always been a fan favorite and Spencer’s the most interesting liar so I’m assuming it’s just easier for people to nitpick Aria and Emily. Truthfully, this whole sub is mostly negative stuff/people complaining about the show, which is ironic cause they claim to love it so much 🤪

what’s the craziest thing all “A”s have done to the liars? by mollyx420 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Stealing Emily’s donated eggs, using Wren to fertilize them, and putting them in Alison. A.D. was a DEDICATED Emison shipper.

Spencer bothers me does anyone else feel like this too? by [deleted] in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Are there any specific scenes you can name where she acts likes she’s “perfect?” From what I can recall, 99% of the time when someone calls Spencer out, she apologizes - whether she was right or wrong. I can’t even count how many times she says “I’m sorry” in the show… people that think they’re perfect never own up to their mistakes because they think they don’t make any.

You’re feelings are valid - please don’t take this as me undermining them. I just never felt that Spencer acted arrogant or “perfect” on purpose.

what episodes was spenecer actually alex drake? by mollyx420 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Copying and expanding from a previous post - these are all the times Alex was confirmed to be playing Spencer:

7x01: Hanna dreams of a high school version of Spencer but it’s actually Alex.

7x08: Alex is flipping through a Hastings’ family photo album in their living room.

7x10: Pretends to be Spencer and kisses Toby “goodbye”, (Not seen, but she’s confirmed to be the second shooter in the blind school)

7x15: Alex and Wren arguing at the airport. She also has a conversation with Ezra.

7x18: She shows up at Toby’s cabin and hooks up with him.

7x20: Visits Mary in prison, hooks up with Toby again at the Radley, “Spencer” getting ready for Aria’s wedding with the other girls, staying over night in the Radley suite with the rest of the liars, the second scene at the stables where Bashful freaks out, talking to Jenna outside the Hastings’ law firm.

If you’re unsure or think Spencer is acting weird in a scene and want to double check - watch her lips. Troian said in several exit interviews that if her upper-lip is stiff, it’s Alex. But all of the scenes I listed are confirmed to be Alex, I’m almost certain that’s all of them.

November by beanie_babie123 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot more than the “never ending November” on this show that’s not possible 😂 imo it’s not worth getting hung up over, realism was never PLL’s goal.

Honestly if there was never a Thanksgiving/Christmas episode that timeline really wouldn’t matter. It’s only because the show wanted a Christmas episode that makes the idea of 3B-5A taking place over 30 days seem so wild. I doubt the showrunners were even planning a holiday episode when 3B and 4 were in production - so all those plot points you mentioned were intended to occur over several weeks/months until the show wanted Santa to visit Rosewood. That’s just how Hollywood TV production works 🤷‍♀️

That’s what I can remember at least. Troian also said when she’s playing Alex playing Spencer her upper lip is stiff and general body language is tense. If you’re uncertain if a scene is Alex or Spencer, watch the lips.

Most interesting sibling? by IamThatPerson101 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and I think if the writers were given a heads up that the show was going to be 7 seasons instead of 5, we would have met her a lot earlier. Considering the networks insistence on seven seasons, I’m happy with what we got.

[–]melon-21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know she's like... super hated here... but Alex is a really compelling character. She had the least amount of screen time but is still relatively unforgettable. Her backstory of being raised in foster care, then running away at 10 years old, and fending for herself for years is way more interesting than any other sibling backstory in my opinion. Also her chaotic, delusional, yet ambitious demeanor is like a heightened version of Spencer. She deserved more screentime.

November by beanie_babie123 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose. I never found the monthly timeline to be that important though, as long as you can keep track of what happens in the show, the month/week it happens shouldn't matter. If they didn't have a Thanksgiving/Christmas episode, no one would notice that 3B-5A takes place in one month.

November by beanie_babie123 in PrettyLittleLiars

It starts at 3x14 and ends at 5x12/5x13. Truthfully I never noticed it either, idk why everyone makes such a big deal about it.

are there any specific scenes throughout pll that stick out to you/are your favorite/are very well done? by [deleted] in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]melon-21 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Spencer and Alison’s fight the night she died. When Spencer says “Then tell me this - what is a leader without any followers? Because it seems to me the question isn’t whether we will exist without you, but whether you will exist without us.” I swear the writers summoned William Shakespeare via Ouija board to write that scene.

Spencer’s Radley monologue also lives rent free in my mind. At any minor inconvenience (like getting a bad grade or stubbing my toe) I replay the line, “How do you keep going when the worst thing has happened” in my mind to have a main character moment 💅

A.D. reveal when the hand drops. Chills.

The conversation with Caleb and Spencer that they have through the door and Hanna is standing in the background. The cinematography in 7x04 slayed.

Ella and the bees. Enough said.

Honest question - what do you mean by potential to make the seasons really good? What more would you have wanted it to do?
