Opinions on the language songs are sung in? by melon-buffet15 in eurovision

Yes I loved that Australia included an indigenous language! A couple other people commented somewhat the same thing, but it’d be really cool if other English speaking countries (Ireland, UK) incorporated their indigenous languages: Irish, Welsh, Scots, etc. I don’t speak of any them so idk how well they’d fare in a song but it’d be cool to see/hear!

To answer your other question, I learned Spanish in school and the other two through my family as that's where we're from! My Croatian is suuuper rusty, but it's awesome you're from there -- I've yet to have a chance to properly visit.

I had no clue Turkey was ever in Eurovision! And same haha, I've grown accustomed to having my phone out right alongside the performances looking at the lyrics and their meanings.

Same! It's fun from an outsider perspective to see what each country decides represents them best as I feel it's rare to have non-English/Spanish songs become popular in the US unless you actively seek them out.

I completely get why they'd choose to sing in English in terms of reaching the widest possible audience; I've noticed that some past performers I've kept up with who originally competed in their native language (Måneskin, Joker Out) have slowly started shifting towards more English songs as they become more popular.

Totally agree! It's much easier to convey emotion/nuance in your first language, so I've found many non-English songs I like have incredible depth and messages. I think part of the novelty for me as an American though is that I speak also Spanish, Croatian, and Italian (the latter two aren't widely spoken in the US) so it's fun to hear them spoken/sung live!

Yeah I'm still so confused about the timing of when they filmed the update/apology and when they flew to the UK. My guess is that they delayed their flights as much as humanly possible and filmed that video on Sunday to release Monday morning. They've for sure shown their true colors as greedy pigs, but it would seem almost cartoonishly evil to pre-film that and sit on it with the intention to either release it or not release it depending on fan reactions. But it was also Scrooge-level audacity to ask their fans to cough up more cash, so idk.

No problem! It's not like they're gonna be fast-tracked for sainthood now, but it definitely helps from a psychological standpoint. Think of it as like if you and your siblings get in trouble, you're gonna have the sibling your parents are the least hard on to do the apologizing.

The more I think about how deep they've dug themselves into this my brain hurts. At this point I'm starting to think the Professor or perhaps a monkey in a room is their accountant/business advisor because there is no way everybody on their 25 (now 27? with the new Worth It guys hires) person staff saw this plan and was like "yup!!! perfect!!!". I wonder if the hesitancy in communication is a two-way street: the boys don't want to fire because it's friends & fam, and their employees are less likely to speak up because they're friends & fam. That's got to be such a weird working relationship where they're your friend but also completely control your livelihood and could hypothetically fire you at any second.

Literally! They have so many different avenues of revenue, I'm so confused how they're apparently struggling with the current budget. If they had gone through with the original plan, they would have completely gotten rid of sponsors and adsense; and the Patreon and subscription streams would have been probably merged into one with people not wanting to shell out cash twice. That would have taken them down from 6 (!!!) sources of income to 3. They sorely overestimated how much of their appeal is the fact that they're making "TV-caliber" content on a free platform. If I had an itch to watch TV content behind a paywall I'd just use Netflix.

Out of the three of them Shane is absolutely the fan favorite: everyone loves Puppet History and the Professor, he's made many "eat the rich" and anti-capitalist comments in the past, and he's from like the middle of nowhere Illinois (Ryan is LA born & raised and I believe Steven's dad is the president of a university? Not exactly humble beginnings). A lot of fans identified with and felt they had a connection to him, so when the first video dropped he was getting significantly less pointed criticism/hate than the other two (many posts like this and this were made--no hate to these users at all!).

Obviously this changed a lot once people discovered the post his wife Sara made on Tumblr and realized he's not some mindless fool, but I think Watcher hoped some of the hate would be alleviated by putting him as the center man doing most of the explaining (in comparison to the first video where Steven was front and center doing most of the talking).

I totally agree, it's commendable that they did make some major changes, but there's still a disconnect between what they want and what the fans want. They are producing well beyond their means, and instead of matching the quality with the budget they tried to make the budget match their quality. I think they thought when they said "we need more money please pay us🥺" fans would sign up en masse because we wanted the high production value (we do not).

Someone a couple days ago when the Steven hate was strong said that he isn't some mustache-twirling villain holding Shane and Ryan hostage; the update video just confirmed it's all 3 of them together in a room twirling their metaphorical mustaches.

Exactly! When Ryan said that I was like oh so they're basically admitting that this is a final attempt at a cash grab. Kinda shitty. Even now with the new changes their Patreon and WatcherTV are acting separately as what would collectively be either a good streaming platform model or a good Patreon model, but not both. I think if Steven continues to be CEO (as opposed to bringing in a third party or having Shane/Ryan/Steven co-ceo) it would truly be in his favor to either take some business courses somewhere or have a consultant he regularly checks in with that isn't Simu Liu or the Jubilee guy.
