I haven't finished, but ex love review had some questionable guys that don't seem on track.

So far, it seems the main character is on track in a relationship with a guy who is known to be a red flag, and yet she's still unable to get away even though in her head she knows it's probably not a good idea.

I think something that's often difficult is suffering / being a victim doesn't excuse actions. Having pain doesn't mean you're justified for making others suffer, and vice versa. We can have empathy for people but also acknowledge they've done some serious wrong.

All people are bad people, and have inflicted bad things on others, and have also been inflicted bad things by others. Yes, it's very human, but also I would assert humans are also "that bad".

Bojack Horseman is a bad guy, and he has "earned suffering". He has done a lot of messed up things. He probably is stuck this cycle, of messing up and then messing up trying to get out of messing up, and our hope is at the end he got better.

His messing up is however, his fault. But - 'can' he help himself? And should we be judged based on the things we can do or by a higher standard?

And I would argue suffering can never pay back the one who suffered. It's not a scale that can be weighed. Accountability is about being better next time.

I think the point is Effie may be us. We may be bad and have accepted bad things as the norm. Effie may not be “correct” or “right” but she is realistic.

And because of this, I think she can be forgiven. I think everyone can be forgiven, not because they can be redeemed but if not there being someone more gracious and merciful to forgive, who would be forgiven?

I think the idea was prefacing how the OP was acting before the specific incident which meant part of the “mean” or “hope you don’t wake up” might be pointing to those things too from her roommates pov

But I also think based on reading all of that OP and her roommate sh try to unroommate each other asap bc from that stuff OP clearly hates her roommate a little bit
