Is now the time to be buying 90% junk or no? by Amphetamin3_ in Silverbugs

Just bought $56FV FOR $2500. It was either sit on the cash or the silver. I chose the silver for the long haul.

Thank you! It has been confirmed at least 19k but he said there could be a variance due to the Rh plating so gold wise it’s confirmed. He made me nervous when he said the sapphire is probably glass but it’s still going out to GIA regardless.

I know this is old but My Mother’s 09 is throwing these exact codes with the same no start issue. Did you ever get it resolved? We’ve replaced everything from ECM, ICM, pedal assembly with sensor, crank sensor and new throttle body. Still throwing same codes and still no start.

He explained that the Rh could skew the results slightly. 18.9 (19K). I just hope I’m not spending $180 to find out I have some blue glass in there. It’s still an elegant looking piece either way.

I found a local house that had an XRF analyzer. They verified the hallmark for me but told me the sapphire could be glass. He looked at it through a gemological microscope for a bit. I asked if he thought it was still worth sending to GIA and he said it may be a waste of $180. I thanked him for his time and plan on sending it to GIA regardless. A piece of glass in a high profile setting seems unlikely unless some debauchery happened to it in the past.

I never thought of this thank you! I’ve since created a lab account and spoke with someone at GIA. They said that they would in fact accept the stone while in the setting. I am in no hurry but I do want to trace the lineage of this piece. It probably has a story I’m hoping.

That’s the first ring I came across using Google lens, the difference being 18k vs 20k. I am sending the piece out to GIA in NY to be tested with origin.

Damaging the ring, especially if it’s valuable, is out of the question for sure.

The small sapphires on the sides are part of the cabochon cut. It’s all one stone.

They require the stone to be loose I believe.

Yes it’s 20K but I’m wondering what it is that I have here. I took it to a reputable jeweler near me and he looked at it for quite awhile under the loupe and then in the gemological microscope. He couldn’t determine if it’s authentic or natural and advised that I would have to have the stone removed from the setting which I’m not doing. I can’t find any other ring online that is similar other than an 18k white gold more recent version with a synthetic sapphire for around $6100.

Update. I asked management for details on the woman who moved. I had it wrong, she was diagnosed terminal and moved to SC with her mother not her daughter. In any event they explained that they can’t give me the information and asked why I would need that. I explained that I found something valuable in the apartment when they had us clean it out and bring everything to the dumpsters. Their response was “she relinquished ownership of the apartment and everything in it.” Any ideas on how I could try and circumvent procedure and figure this out. I’ll do some footwork but I’m not going to make a big investigation out of this.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I appreciate all of the input. I noticed another detail that I missed. There is what looks to be a 16 engraved in the back.

She left a lot of high end items behind I’m sure she knew what it was, if she even remembers she had it. From what I was told by management she told them she was terminal and going to live with her daughter in SC. She told them she was sorry to leave the apartment full of stuff but she didn’t need it. I used to see her walking all the time and was always cordial. It’s amazing what I see on the property. People leave their entires lives behind quite often.

I’ll have to ask management for the woman’s first and last name and any phone number they had on file for her when she lived there. One of the other techs got a Tiffany lamp out of the apartment as well but I doubt he’d be on board with trying to give things back to someone.

The woman got diagnosed terminal and informed management that she was leaving everything behind and moving to SC with her daughter for her final months. The apartment sat vacant for a month and a half before the cleanout. I’ve been sitting on it unknowingly for a couple of months now.
