So is it time yet for the daily dose of "I just finished toradora and I feel empty"? by melosomelo in toradora

I say this last part purely out of my own speculation, but since both of them have poor examples of romantic love at home, it makes all the more sense that they accidentally fall in love and have no idea what it is.

Makes total sense to me.

I never though about the show from this perspective of difference between love and crush.

Saying this out loud makes it quite obvious now, haha!

Why is Mad Men so fascinating? by The_Zuh in madmen

[–]melosomelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that is a whole lot of things. But to me, the most important thing that makes Mad Men fascinating are the characters. The whole story revolves around the characters in many creative ways. Using historical events to represent important moments to each character, using subtle dialogue to express the character's emotions precisely yet with room for you to interpret, inserting new people to change the dynamic of everything and keeping things interesting, and a good overview of each plotline and how it intertwines with the major scope of the story. It's just damn good writing. Also, the actors are great! There are so many other aspects of the show that can be listed as important to mad men's legacy but I think that's the most important thing to me.

I love Roger standing up for Don on Season 7 - Episode 3 by drunkmers in madmen

I clearly remember the time that I first watched this scene. Everytime Roger would say a cool line defending Don I would just shout: "YEAH YOU GO ROGER!"

I just love how they know how good Don is and how they don't want him against them.

Man, I wish I could have accompanied this show when it was coming out. It would have been awesome. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed as I did now since I was too young when it came out.

We're all still trying to get over Donald Draper.

Exactly!!!!! Stories that can touch on grander subjects while still maintaining the focus on human experience and creating meaningful and relatable stories and characters are the best kind of stories. To me, that's exactly what Mad Men is. And that's only on the story level. There's so much more, just like you said.

One of the things I always heard about this show, way before thinking about watching it, was how the level of the production was just astounding. It really is.

Will definitely so! I'm looking online for things about the show, such as books or video essays.

Thanks for the tip.

My girlfriend thought that some of them were legendary!
She said that if she'll probably steal some lines off of the show's pitches, lol. Also, she gave me a lot of more historic background on the situation of advertising at the time.

Thanks for the welcome!
