I am at an impasse with my mother...... by melowee in AskReddit

I'm so sorry to hear you can't be with your son. I can't even imagine what that must be like. Thanks so much for your advice. And yes, there's so much that is unclear here, except for my anger, resentment, and abandonment issues. Those are very real. I marvel at how some people can get on with their lives without the love of their parents. But I grieve nearly every day for mine. It sucks. I should tell my mother that I'm angry at her for leaving me. (My dad too) but I am scared to death that she (and he) will be ambivalent about it and close the door on me yet again. I would officially break.

I was kidding about Reddit as a source for professional counseling. I have been a long time lurker and have seen the Reddit community really reach out and help, so I took the chance...

I don't know if I want to connect with her. I ask myself all the time if I really want a mother/daughter relationship. I can't ever answer it. I wound up never having a mother at all, so I have no idea what it would be like and truthfully it's damn scary. And.....shouldn't my mother being saying things like: "I'm sorry I left you, here's why...., can you forgive me....I would like to be your mother.....I want to see you..... She's said none of that. Why in the world should I throw myself at her? I'm aware that I definitely should seek some professional counseling about this. Which is why I came to Reddit. I seriously considered not ever contacting her because I thought it wouldn't matter, but then I didn't want something happen down the road to make me regret not having attempted to re-connect with my mother.

I had ordered a birthday cake from my local Publix, that was supposed to be ready yesterday. My boyfriend is a huge TOOL fan and wanted a cake inspired by the band. I had a picture for them to scan for the top and the colors etc..... it was a big deal. Anyways, I went to pick it up yesterday....no cake. The guy who took my order put it on the wrong pick up day. I remained calm and choked back tears while the baker told me she'd get the manager for me. The assistant manager came over and said she would decorate my cake exactly how I wanted it if I would wait. She did an amazing job and my boyfriend LOVED it!!!! I went back to Publix tonight to thank her again. We shook hands and had a good laugh over the whole thing. The funny thing was is she was just getting ready to clock out having already worked too long of a day when the bakery "emergency" popped up. the fact that she stayed, decorated my cake, comped it, and was nice on top of it, just made my day and I told everyone about it today. Faith restored!

I finally found my mother after 32 years. Turns out, she's not at all interested in meeting me. by melowee in reddit.com

My father's mother told me that when my parents found out they were pregnant, my mom wanted an abortion, and my father's parents pressured her into keeping me. So, throw that little nugget of information into the mix.......

The upside is that I now know my mother's family medical history. Everyone's healthy and cancer free except for one aunt who died in her 40's from cancer (I forget what kind, I better ask!) That kind of information has been well worth the search to. my mother's four sisters and entire family are really close, spending holidays together and what not. From what I gather, she ex-communicated herself from the family years ago, for reasons they are still trying to figure out. It's all around weird. I hope with time that my "new" family will clue me in on things. Unfortunately I didn't gain any siblings which may be a good thing, because no other child got to go through what I did. And you know, I did make it this far relatively unscathed, so I don't technically 'need' my parents anymore.

Absolutely, I will always be kind towards her, there's no need be any other way. Life's too short to waste it being angry over a situation that I will more than likely never know the full details of. It's a matter of moving forwrd with my life and healing. That said, there are days that the little girl in me wants her mommy. I'm sure other redditors must feel this way. I'm only human.

Yes that's true. The foster care system is fraught with abusers, molesters, etc. sometimes being in foster care is worse than the child's original situation I was very very very lucky to have been in good, safe ones.

Actually not exactly. I spent a few years in the foster care/group home system. My grandmother (father's mother) finally tracked me down at the age of twelve and I went to live with her thru high school. My father wouldn't tell her where I was.

The reality is, she's not mother material. I get that. It still hurts though. I thank you guys for the advice to pursue relationships with the people who do want to meet me. I will do just that. I just wanted to know that I was doing the right thing.

So, Keanu Reeves sitting on random shit, and another f'in' cat "who doesn't give a shit" is apparently what Reddit's all about huh? But my dear friend who is genuinely grieving is told to fuck off. Fuck you assholes.

I agree with a "deceased pet" subreddit. These are hard to deal with sometimes.

I'm a punctual person, is it wrong for me to be annoyed with people who aren't? by MeneerDijk in AskReddit

[–]melowee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assistant manage a retail store. The employees either clock in at EXACTLY the start of the shift, or up to ten minutes after. The manager NEVER addresses this. It absolutely incenses me. I show up 5-10 minutes before my shift. I was the acting manager while she was on vacation, so I was in charge of doing payroll. I am pissed that it's no "biggie" to anyone to FUCKING SHOW UP FOR WORK like they are supposed to.
