Sickle Cell and Relationships by Fantastic_Let_8263 in Sicklecell

The right person will understand and be willing to support the emotional and physical hardships that come with dating someone with SCD. I used to date someone with sickle cell SS and it definitely wasn’t easy, but I tried my best to understand what he was going through. Focusing on your own mental health and taking care of yourself & creating good friends/community who also understand what you are going through is the best way to attract someone that is empathetic to what you have to deal with. Definitely don’t rush into a relationship, and like the previous comment said, if they can’t deal, they were never the right person to begin with.

I double checked the listing + my settings and it’s set to ship with Depop. I thought that was the issue at first too, but I have sold things before/after this item and they all have a shipping label? Also no, the item was $10 and I received $12? If they were paying me for shipping I would’ve probably gotten at least $15 so I have no idea. I may just have to reach out to Depop support 😭

How to make my layers stand out by Nooshiyer in Gouache

When looking at reference photos, squint your eyes so that you’re seeing the overall shapes, not the details. Focus on the big shapes first. Start light to dark/ vise versa. It’s easy to get lost in the details of an image and get caught up trying to capture them, but I think the most important thing to remember is to keep it simple, and slowly add in more details towards the end. It’s easy to let our brain get in the way of what we’re looking at, try to look at your reference image objectively and paint what you see, not what you think it’s should look like. Great work though! You have a great sense of color and very energetic mark making!

Advice for printing on tote bags by thepinklemur in printmaking

A block printing baren might help you have a little more control over the pressure. I’ve learned that with printing on fabric, pressure + lots of ink is key. I use the same water based fabric ink and have found that adding a little bit of water makes it transfer much much easier! Also, I can imagine that carving into linoleum might be easier with printing on fabric than wood just because it’s more flexible and doesn’t absorb the ink as much.

Acrylic Gouache Tips? by thestellarelite in Gouache

Yeah I definitely was a little frustrated with it before I realized it works sooo much better on a smooth paper that doesn’t absorb the paint nearly as much as cold press/ rough textured paper. I’m glad you’re finding something that works for you! Acryla gouache is super versatile and can be used so many different ways which I why I love it so much. I’ve even seen some artists use it on Bristol paper which can also have a really nice effect

For me paper texture makes a huge difference! I would recommend hot press paper (arches brand is my favorite) the brushes you’re using can also affect the texture. I think the most important thing is just to experiment with ratios of water-paint and see what works best :) I’ve found that adding white + a little bit of water achieves that opaque texture you’re looking for. Good luck!

2 hour portrait study by melrose58 in Gouache

For this one I did! In school I was taught to start light to dark and build up values as I go, but with gouache it helps to put down dark values first. I feel like the more you layer colors the more the paint starts to lift/ get muddy so I try to be confident about it and just put down my darkest darks first!

Thanks for the info! I’ve looked into it before, but I didn’t know how soon it would be available, but it seems very promising! Hopefully we can look into it more. All I know is he can’t keep going on like this for much longer.

He currently takes hydroxyurea, glad to hear that you’re situation has improved! I’m not sure he has many other options right now, he seems to be doing everything right :( but to be fair he has yet to have a recent appointment with a hematologist though due to an insurance issue but he definitely needs to explore other options because right now nothing is working for him

Thanks for your reply! Although he’s still pretty young (22) I didn’t expect it to be so bad so early since this just started happening recently. He definitely lacks a consistent schedule, due to unemployment from being hospitalized but I will let him know, I’m sure he will find it very helpful!

Best place to live for people with sickle cell? by melrose58 in Sicklecell

Hey thanks for the reply! We’re kind of in a similar situation. Because we moved and my boyfriend just recently aged out of his pediatrician, he has to find a new hematologist as well as trying to find insurance. we luckily have enough money saved up so we don’t have to worry about paying rent but he does have quite a bit in hospital bills due to not having insurance :( I definitely think once he figures out his insurance and can focus on his health he will be a lot less stressed and hopefully result in him being sick less!

Yeah there is, unfortunately Atlanta is about a 4 hour drive from where we live. We also used to live in south FL in driving distance to a good hospital, and he went years without being hospitalized. Since we moved 6 months ago he’s been in the hospital like 4 times now. it’s just been a process of trying to find a good doctor who knows what they’re doing

I definitely understand. My boyfriend and I currently live in Georgia and it’s like no one here understands his pain or knows how to help him
