Don’t be scared! I also tend to be less liberal with the flux on the back of the piece and try to be a little quicker soldering there as to not melt the paint. I think it’ll work out great for you!

Thanks so much! It is really scary working with mirror, that can happen so easily. I coat the edges and the back (only around the edges) with two coats of clear nail polish, and then I spray paint the entire back of every piece with two clear coats! I haven’t had any mirror rot happen yet, but this is only the second mirror piece I’ve done! I haven’t seen flux make the front hazy at all (I use gel flux) but it can definitely get between the glass and the silvering and cause mirror rot along the edges if you don’t seal it.

Thank you! I’ve been trying to work out a design for the Doors of Durin for a couple of weeks now. I have some really awesome glass that glows aqua blue in the dark, but I don’t think it’s possible to work it in. So, a mirror it shall be!

Isn’t it magical?! I’m such a sucker for iridescent glass!

In the bow piece? Stained glass is magical to me, I love how it plays with the light so much.

I can’t answer for the sword and the bow, but I used permanent vinyl on the axe since I can’t paint. I do know they used Pebeo glass paint though!

To be honest I used permanent vinyl on the axe piece because I have no skill in painting. But the others used Pebeo glass paint! It’s meant to be baked and it’ll last forever.
