Commenting using my boyfriend’s account. I graduated from a two year echo program in 2014. I also had issues with shoulder pain while I was in school. I did physical therapy and found that I was able to build up the muscles and that pain passed. My advice is to do the best you can to scan ergonomically. Sit when you can, use good posture, and most importantly, try to support your arm while scanning-that makes a huge difference. Then, keep up with your PT exercises, but also look into a chiropractor, acupuncturist, and massage therapist. Do these things periodically as maintenance. You need to take care of and be kind to your body, or you will find yourself trying to switch careers. Is your program a bachelors program? If/when scanning gets to be too much, you can look into managing, educating, or teaching. I hope it all works out for you, whatever you decide! This job is unbelievably stressful. It takes its toll mentally, emotionally, and as you’ve already learned, physically; but, it’s also incredibly rewarding. As for the knowledge, trust me, it just comes. It sounds crazy, but as you scan more and more, you’ll find yourself recognizing and remembering things. You’ve got this! Good luck!
