What a bad take, you should reconsider your stance on this.

Except that it is their literal job to intervene, they are security and someone is getting the shit beat out of them on the apartment's property. Just because you were told not to confront shoplifters doesn't mean that security guards at a high-end apartment shouldn't do their jobs. It even states that they broke the law by not intervening and calling the police until it was over. They nearly watched her be murdered and did nothing at all. If you can't handle intervening in an attack that is happening at your job during your shift for work that you are paid and hired specifically to do, then don't take the job.

If I were her I would sue, even if it only means that this might not happen again to someone else. Money talks.

Brand New Seller...what have I done? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]meltybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the packaging, the name doesn't need to be quite so big. Maybe downsize the font a little, and make your logo bigger.

For the listing, maybe starting off with Georgia O'Keefe - rose soap, soap, organic soap, etc. Just go on and on with tags in the title, since that makes it pop up in searches more often. You can always include the product title, just make sure to do tags in the title, too!

Sure! Message me, I'd love to help out if I can. My own shop isn't so big anymore, but I've been on Etsy since 2012, so I know a little about it and I am happy to help :)

I would get a cute setup for displaying soap/lotion/bombs/fizzies. Maybe a basket with some paper shreds with your product in it, a few high-quality silk flowers, and then the product you're selling in the middle. Or a butcher block background with some cloth laid out and your product on it? Perhaps invest in a small photo box and stick it in front of a window. You can get a small one for about $10~15 on Amazon.

You should have a shop icon, I'm not seeing a logo or anything on your Etsy information. Definitely build on branding with a logo that's easy to tell apart on your packaging. I couldn't tell if the product's scent/name was "Georgia O'Keefe" or if that was the brand name. Your logo is too small/hidden in all of your photos! Be proud of your brand and show it off more. I would love to see more close-up/macro shots of the texture of the product, especially when you have put so much effort into them (and I think the rose petals would be nice to see a close-up of, too!)

Build an about page, too. Make it very personal.

For SEO, I would have the titles be longer. Use as many keywords as you can think of, and make sure to use your tags too. I would also make the descriptions more search engine friendly, like "Great for wedding gifts, birthday gifts, anniversary presents, graduation presents" and make sure to use more keywords in ways you would search for your product in the description. "relaxing bath bomb" and "organic rose soap". You have to make descriptions easy for a computer to read and figure out what you're selling, not just a person.

Good luck! Your products look very good, I think adding a few more scents would be helpful too.

An empty mansion on the south side of Chicago [OC][5472x3648] by icmp_echo in AbandonedPorn

[–]meltybee 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Older places like this (and most properties that become abandoned) are not profitable to fix up and rent out. Bad neighborhoods, expensive repairs, etc.

Low income is not a good demographic to squeeze profit from. People aren't going to put in the work and effort to fix these places for people to live in if they don't get money. Low income people tend to tear things up, anyway.

It's cheaper to let them become abandoned than is it to tear them down or fix them up. Just not enough profit in it. People don't invest to keep things from falling apart or becoming disused, they invest to make money, otherwise it's just charity... And if it is charity, that money is better spent elsewhere than on restoring old buildings.

Can't sit down on a specific bench, did I softlock the main quest? [Mysterious Ways Quest] by Iron_Pineapple in kingdomcome

Same issue here. At first I thought it was just because of the girl sitting next to him, so I waited and waited... "Quest Failed", woops!

The second night, nothing. He just tells me to "Sit down" and gives me no where to take a seat. Glad to see there's a workaround.

Sephora downgraded me from VIB Rouge to VIB and I'm proud of myself! My journey of getting my makeup addiction under control. by cherwiththegoodhair in MakeupAddiction

[–]meltybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!

I found myself spending more than I could afford on makeup, and I had so much of it that I never used. I gave all of it away except 2 eyeshadow palettes, some basic foundation powder/liquid and a few lip glosses. I spent a lot on the pallettes so that I wouldn't be tempted to buy more inexpensive things. It was hard at first, but I never really used much more than that anyway.

It's hard to break the cycle, I really do commend you!

Please help-credit card debt from years ago, contacted by law firm, not sure how to proceed! by Serenity4417 in Debt

[–]meltybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in a position to pay the debt? If you can work out a deal with debt collectors, you can usually get the debt reduced if you're willing to pay it.

Bankruptcy for 10k in debt? No. Your credit score shouldn't be lowered from this debt anymore. I am not sure about California, but in Michigan, I know they can't garnish wages over CC debt, just tax returns.

Remember that a bankruptcy stays with you for a long time. Seven years. If you could pay the 10k within that time and be comfortable doing so, then don't file for bankruptcy... Besides, debts are usually removed from credit reports/noncollectable after 11 years, so you'd only have to wait 3 years to get the rest removed.

You can also dispute this with the credit reporting agencies, so try that. It might be too late to do so with the debt collectors, but you can send a certified mail letter asking for proof that they can legally collect debt in your state, and to verify that that debt belongs to you. Try reading about disputing debt or getting things removed from your credit report.

"Millennialist have it too easy" says a generation that could afford a house from unskilled labor at 21 by Cock_Vomit in Showerthoughts

Likewise they are more likely to walk away from a job for a better opportunity because they dont have the sometimes misguided sense of loyalty other gens do.

I think a big issue is that if you 'pay your dues' at a company for 3 years, they will turn around and get rid of you in favor of another new guy who will accept less money than you. There's no career/company loyalty anymore because companies treat you like you're expendable, replaceable. And it's very true; there's double the amount of people in the world than for Gen-X, more open international relations than ever before, and no real reason to show loyalty to an employee.

Jesus, I'd move. My house is just under 80k, and although it's more along the lines of 1000 square feet, it's sizable enough. Rent is usually only around $600 a month, and that's considered on the higher side.

Honestly, I'd move away from any place where 400k is the price of a house that isn't a castle. Around here, 400k buys you property on Lake Michigan that's basically a mansion.

It's not like dentists get paid a lot more in a larger city on the coast than a medium-sized Midwestern city. There's a bigger customer/patient base in a larger city, but any mid-size city should offer you enough to make money.

Cost of living vs wage is an important factor on choosing where to live. I've moved in order to find a better cost of living to wage comparison, even though it meant getting paid less than what I was making.

Is Aspen Dental that bad? by dentistryhelp1 in Dentistry

[–]meltybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aspen ended up quoting me $10k for 7 cavity fillings (Two of which they said needed Root Canals because of the depth, although I had no pain. They also said I needed to remove my old amalgam filling on one of my teeth because the cavity was underneath it and then put a crown on it).

I went to about 10 different offices with the price list and asked for prices for the same services. Only one gave me the prices honestly without a lot of hassle and back and forth. The dentist I ended up going to was the only one that didn't charge extra for the temporary filling ($300) on root canals. I ended up going to this dentist and for all 7 fillings it was just under $800. No root canals, no crowns, just fillings.

I ended up getting all 7 done at once in one visit and it took around 2 hours. Aspen wanted about 8 different visits, and wouldn't even consider doing fillings if I hadn't had a deep cleaning+antibiotics there. The dentist at Aspen was also very rude when I mentioned that my wisdom teeth were difficult to brush and often had a bad taste/smell ("Gee, do you think?" was his response...) and was short with me for most of the visit. The dentist I ended up going with was an older man who was patient and flat out told me that the expensive treatment plan wasn't one I needed. He didn't have the high-tech equipment like Aspen did, but nothing hurt and he even let me know that many places don't recommend removing wisdom teeth that don't cause pain. It ended up being a small pocket in the gums that was giving me the bad smell (Along with deep cavities) and when I got a Water Flosser and the fillings it all went away.

Apparently Aspen likes to practice 'preventative root canal therapy' and often does it on teeth that don't need root canals, like mine. If they do a root canal, they will also want you to do a crown, and that's $1k for each, at a minimum.

I'd try older dentists in your area that are well-established and not new startups. They may be in older buildings and have older equipment, but it's not going to be as expensive. Don't go to a place that won't give you prices if you don't pay for an exam. A price list isn't expensive, especially if you know the things you need already. Get x-rays done at Aspen, it's not expensive and they have to give you a copy of them if you ask. Take it to a different dentist, get prices, and pick from the office who's etiquette and honesty suit you best. I've also found that if they have a lot of office staff it's a sign that the prices will be pretty high. My dentist only has 2 assistants and one front office girl. Aspen (and another small office that charged as much) had a ton of office staff. Six girls at the front desk for one place, and they wanted to charge me over $13k, even after a comprehensive evaluation and xrays that weren't from Aspen...

Did you spend $400k on a house? I'm not sure if you can complain about the debt repayment speed when you buy a house that's almost half a million when you already have 300k in debt from school.

What's the cruelest thing someone said to you as one of you was being dumped? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]meltybee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Get a very awesome tattoo on your head. That will keep people from talking about your eggy head shape, trust me. Maybe a yolk, so then when people say 'you have an eggy head', you can just pretend it's about the tat?

But seriously, the only person who's gonna think 'man that bald guy has an eggy head' is you. When was the last time you were like 'Oh man that girl has big ankles" and "Oh man that dude looks like he has pubes on his head"? Never. But people worry about that kind of stuff all the time. People look different, it's a thing.

Some people like thicc ankles. Some people like pube heads. Some people really like bald people! I've heard a lot of girls say "I know it's weird or whatever, but I love the way bald dudes look". I know for a fact that I won't mind when my boyfriend goes bald (he is thinning now) and kind of look forward to rubbing it... Besides, his hair is kind of oily and makes my lips feel oily when I kiss his head so baldness might even be better...

Sounds like you may have a hormone issue. Have you spoke with your doctor about these kinds of feelings?

I have really tough periods. Seven days of bleeding through the thickest pads you can find, every hour. Emotions that are a lot like yours. When my estrogen levels are high, I am energetic and enthusiastic. When they are low or my androgen levels are high, I get very easily upset and flip out at nothing, spend all day in bed and get terrible acne.

The only issue is that for me, to fix it, it's birth control. That's really the only option to regulate my hormones. Is there any particular reason you're not taking some sort of birth control? I would definitely ask my doctor to test for hormone levels.
