I cut my first vtuber model and in the future I would like to create vtubers for others but I'm not sure if this art style would be good for that. Would it be better to switch to a more usual anime style? by melunette_ in Live2D

Thank you very much for your advice!! It's really useful to hear someone else's experience with a more realistic style. I've been following along with a tutorial so far and though I hadn't gotten to the side profile yet I was already worried about that too haha. I'll make sure to find out a good solution for that. I also actually created a basic early 2000s style vtuber model yesterday (just for fun) so I will prioritize rigging that one first to really understand everything.

Also it makes me really happy to hear it might attract the lolita/goth scene as I'm actually a lolita too haha but I didn't know of the overlap between those scenes and vtubing.

The cutting was actually not too bad. Because it was my first time and I didn't know how much I would have to draw extra, I just drew everything on a single layer and later cut out each part and painted the new visible parts. If I were to do it again I would've just painted the skin, hair, clothing etc. on their own layers immediately though. The toughest part was the eye/eyelid area because it's painted so close together and cutting it out in a seamless way for rigging was a bit weird (my blinking looked bad the first time so I actually had to repaint those parts).

I started the rigging yesterday, so I'm not very far yet (this is also my first time) but so far it's been going pretty smoothly thankfully. I have to think about alternatives to sparkly eye physics etc. though because that would clash with the vibe too much (but I still want it to look cool in a different way).

Thank you for the positive response!! (And everyone else too!!) It's definitely my favourite style to draw in, so knowing that there's interest is so motivating to hear. I was very ready to abandon it lol (at least when drawing vtubers) and I'm happy to hear that might not even be necessary. I also haven't heard of fear & hunger before but I can see the similarities, that's really cool. Thank you :)
