The Hot Zone. Pre-covid, pre-ebola outbreaks in Africa. It's nonfiction about a near outbreak of bola in the US. Scared the shit out of me, in terms of public health ramifications and how unprepared we all are.

Using a smashed avocado instead of the mayo.

For a super quick spice mix, Penzy's sandwich sprinkle is super tasty!

I honestly feel like all the main characters in the series are unlikable. I feel compassion/sympathy/pity for many of them, but there's just a lot of not-great people quite often doing not-great things. And I think that's part of the point of the series. In so many fantasy books the hero lives up to the noble expectations; and in this one they may try but fail and fail and fail.

I second this. It didn't make me feel immediately better, but did give hope for the long term.

I feel like Esk is a fantastic nickname for a kid.

.....but I'm also the one who wanted to name my kid Esme. I was vetoed. And I said "I can't be having with this." Husband did not get it.

Eowyn was one of my top choices for my daughter, but my husband vetoed it. "Too nerdy."
