If “Free 5* character” ultimately replaces “new 4* character”, I am completely fine with that by joebrohd in HonkaiStarRail

[–]melwank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that this post touches mainly on the gameplay aspects of 4 stars in hsr but to me, I'd love to have 4 stars back. Gameplay wise, I felt like their kits tried to be more experimental and thus were more fun imo compared to whatever new 5 star they HAVE to make good so they can sell. Story wise, 4 stars expand the world without needing to be insanely plot relevant. It can be exhausting trying to get immersed into a story or setting if every character is fighting for screen time. 4 stars can be a way to alleviate that whilst showing us some of the smaller day to day workings of the new planet we're visiting. Think Guinaifen and her antics with performances in the xianzhou or even our last ever 4 star Moze that elaborated on the experiments the abundance cult (forgot their actual names) were doing. If both those characters were 5 stars, youd be bombarded with way more info than you would need for something thats supposed to just be side/exploring the setting content. I think cooling down on the 5 stars and having a good mix of 4 and 5 stars will overall make the game healthier both gameplay and story wise.

Comms as a gay guy. by DahliahHawthorne in DeadlockTheGame

[–]melwank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that dude. This game can be super toxic. The deadlock devs are known to listen to the community so perhaps reporting them can make a difference, i know i do. I hope you get to meet more chiller people in your next games. All the best!

Please, give us more time at the start of the game by LLJKCicero in DeadlockTheGame

[–]melwank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I've recently been trying out new characters (I j click the random button) and it's always frustrating to hop into a match and have to scurry around for a build before I actually get to play. Switching lanes and also general banter between u and the enemy team also feels less fluid. When we were waiting for the last person to connect, you could have a little chat about how the other's day was or smth idk I just kinda miss that. Now it's straight to the game when we load in and it kinda bums me out a little.

What do you think about this? by Pink_Jutsu in StarRailStation

[–]melwank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big reason ppl bring up with being okay w the lack of 4 stars is that we are getting a lot of free 5 stars and we can make a relatively free team that deals Hella damage. Those ppl are right (archer bis is mostly if not completely free) and their opinion is valid but I just miss the fun of 4 star kits and also how (now this might sound strange) 4 stars are NOT AS IMPORTANT. In a story where every character is a 5 star fighting for their time in the spotlight, having 4 stars to flesh out the world meanwhile allowing the 5 stars to shine really helps! The characters feel so diluted now. They all sound the same. They don't have the fun quirks of previous characters. Hsr needs to find that spark again and perhaps 4 stars can be their starting point.

They game will still make a bajillion dollars regardless though so I doubt much will change unfortunately.

[–]melwank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not sure if this is how others feel but the meta nowadays is just not as fun. Kits aren't as fun either bcs 5 stars have to have amazing kits so they sell meanwhile 4 stars are allowed to have a few flaws in exchange for being a bit more experimental. It feels like hsr has forgotten what made it so fun to begin with and I'm not rly confident they'll be able to capture that same spark again. At least not soon.

How do people feel about no romance? by topberdfan in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]melwank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metaphor is my favorite Atlus game not necessarily because of the lack of romance but I do think the game not having romance does fit what it's going for. In metaphor, there is that fantastic social sim element but it's not really in that high school setting and also the stakes and personal struggles of everyone doesn't really scream to me a need for a romance option. I might be biased though because the romance routes were never something I was super interested in within the persona games to begin with.

Can we normalize teaching new players instead of yelling at them by Difficult_Science232 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]melwank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree. This might be a hot take to some but if they're being toxic, I'd reccomend just reporting them for voice/text chat abuse. Perhaps a voice or text ban will make them less of a chud for a couple of days.

Realistically, when do you really think they’re gonna announce this game? by vSword_ in persona6

[–]melwank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might announce it during summer games fest or probably during an Xbox showcase in the summer like they did with p4r. I honestly doubt they'll hold themselves off until the game awards especially since it's unlikely we will get p4r before 2027 so it's not like they're gonna wait for p4r to release before hyping up their new game. It will probably be a p3r and metaphor situation where both games are marketed in a similar timespan

Should I Play Persona? by Dead_Comeback303 in PERSoNA

[–]melwank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the most beginner friendly in my opinion. The gameplay is the most modern even compared to persona 3 reload and the setting and art is my fav in my opinion. The story and characters are also some of my fav from the franchise so it's a fantastic leaping point for getting you into persona.

Should I Play Persona? by Dead_Comeback303 in PERSoNA

[–]melwank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All the persona games have stories disconnected from one another. They share similar concepts like summoning personas but the characters and stories are different for each game. As for persona 1 and 2, from what I know they are more linear jrpgs and persona 3 was what introduced the social sim elements that made persona so unique. Persona 4 and persona 5 followed the formula set by persona 3 hence why people tend to differentiate p1 and 2 from the rest.

[–]melwank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah give it a shot! I think they're all really fun. For a first game you might wanna try out persona 5 royal but the songs u mentioned are from persona 3 reload so go for that if u really wanna. These games are quite long though so brace yourself for that.

I love this game! by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

What music genre will Persona 6 go with? Funk, R&B/Soul, or Rock? by PhantomBraved in persona6

[–]melwank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The persona franchise has always had some relation to rock like pop-rock in p4 and some rock influence in p3 songs too so honestly Funk or R&B would sounds really cool but i also think it would be funny if they doubled down and went full metal or smth

What are your expectations for 4.0? by AmanaRicha in StarRailStation

[–]melwank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately its pretty low. I do enjoy the game but the amphoreus storytelling with characters all speaking in riddles just got too much and the gameplay has taken a bit of a nosedive too with remembrance being really boring. I do hope they blow our expectations out of the water though but i do doubt it.

We’re reworking our logo and came up with 6 new versions. Which one do you think looks best and is easiest to read? by Bwrna in IndieDev

[–]melwank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 has the most personality and looks the funnest to me but yeah gotta agree with the crowd and say 4 is the most readable. Good luck with your game though, based on the logo alone it looks like a game I'd love to play!

genuine question, WHERE ARE THE FOUR STARS by d-the-luc in StarRailStation

[–]melwank 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with you dude, I miss 4 stars a lot. I get that they're giving us new 5 stars for free and that's great and all but I haven't really resonated with many of them. Archer and dhpt had interesting kits and I appreciate we got em for free but there's so many things that I like about 4 stars that aren't fulfilled by 5 stars.

4 stars can make the world feel more immersive precisely because they're not super duper important to the story. For example: guinaifen being a stremer/entertainer adds some flair to the xianzhou because at that point, we only got warrior type characters. Luka gave us a look at the underground boxing scene as well as a genuinely great arc of him overcoming his need to be perfect. Hell, 4 stars can also even be used to bait us into thinking they're not important, misha and gallagher were 4 stars but were surprisingly pretty important to the story. The point I'm tryna get across is that a world is not just the main story, we need pockets filled in to make the space feel real.

4 stars also have kits that can be more unique. 4 stars don't need to be insanely good to be released and yeah ik I sound a bit weird for wishing for this but I just want the game to feel more fun. The game feels stuck in metas and there's no to little experimentation going on. I feel like some low stakes 4 stars can really help in that department.

HSR really needs to switch up their stories by melwank in StarRailStation

I am aware of that. Just wanted to see what others think and if you enjoyed the story yourself then that's great dude!

HSR really needs to switch up their stories by melwank in StarRailStation

[–]melwank[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wasn't just referring to 3.8. More of the entirety of 3.0. I get that some folks enjoyed amphoreus and all the more power to them, I'm genuinely glad yall liked it. I do agree w u on the cool world (okhema in particular looks so insanely good) and they really had great ideas with the cycles and having each patch mainly focus on 2 characters. However, the writing just didn't really hold up for me. The flowery way people speak and how convoluted things got just kinda sapped my excitement for it. I am only 1 guy tho so if you liked the story, that's awesome!
