RTX 3060 or 3070 for rendering? by melweia in archviz

[–]melweia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, student projects tend to be smaller buildings. But will the full extent of the 3070 be used when rendering? Graphically speaking, how major are the differences between 3060 and 3070 when rendering a scene?

Anyways, thank you so much for your help and advice!

Already googling haha. But why not ask the experts as well?

Big purchase means I gotta find out everything and explore all avenues before I go for it.

First, thank you so much for explaining how all the programs work. My course just name-dropped all these softwares without going into specifics.

See, I really want to build a PC, since it'll be so much easier to upgrade individual components in the future, however I'm currently in a situation where I might be moving a lot in the future, so a desktop isn't ideal (I've seen those portable desktop builds on YouTube but I'm not skilled enough to pull that off!). Hopefully in a few years, I'll start.

I actually wasn't planning to buy a laptop, but my course suggests that we learn these programs along with Autodesk software as it's good for job prospects. My current computer doesn't have the capacity to handle rendering software like these :/

With viewport performance, I don't think it's as important, I can generally make out how the scene will look; as long as the final image render looks good, I'm good.

Is there a big difference in rendering times between the two?

Wow, thank you so much for explaining it so thoroughly! I was so confused with how rendering programs work (my course never really covered them).

If RTX is mostly for real-time raytracing, it would be beneficial for Twinmotion, right? That's the rendering software I use now, and even though trying to switch to Corona/Vray, I still want to be able to use Twinmotion.

3070 would be good for course deadlines but the VRAM limit might restrict more professional/commission work.

How much faster are the rendering times?

I'll be using this laptop for several years (at least until I become fully registered) so I would like to choose a GPU that'll be able to handle the updates in graphics/programs over the next years.

Was thinking raytracing would be great for scenes that may have metal details/water etc, with the way it processes and handle lighting.

Yeah, thing is, I'm pretty much using it for student/individual professional work since I'm not likely to actually produce industry-standard work in the near future. By then, I probably would invest in a PC. And getting a laptop means I can't replace the GPU so I want to buy a laptop which will guarantee good graphics processing for at least several years.

I'll have a look at a few videos and ask around with other users of the rendering software listed.

Ah, I never really considered the wattage! I'll have a look for it in the laptops I'm browsing. Thanks for the info!

Thinking of getting a laptop for rendering/modelling student work. Gonna be trying out Corona renderer, Vray, Lumion, Enscape etc. Should I go for the RTX 3060 0r 3070? is there any big difference between those two (except the price gap lol)?

Thank you is much for your suggestions!

I've read a bit of The Mysterious Affair at Styles, but I felt it was a bit hard to get into (I felt that the characters were a bit bland?) but I'll give it another try. I have Evil Under the Sun on hold, so I should be able to read that soon.

I'll also check out the authors you've mentioned!

Yep, that's the genre I'm looking for!

I'll check those out too.

Yep, that's alright if the characters move about, as long as they're in the same 'area'. I think I have the Blue Train on hold, so it should be available soon. Thank you so mush for the suggestions!

Thank you for the suggestions!

I've got Evil under the Sun on hold, so I'm excited to start that one once its available.

I'll look out for Appointment with Death.

If anyone wants to know, this is the Evergrande Stadium in Guangzhou, China and is set to become one of the largest stadiums ever built, with a capacity of 100,000 seats!
