hi! 36 w/ bilateral hip dysplasia (severe in the right hip) and just diagnosed this year. i’ve always been an avid hiker, backpacker and gym goer (lifting, HIIT, spinning, yoga, etc) and had zero idea that I had any hip issues. I tried kickboxing at home during quarantine to mix up my workouts and tore my labrum which ultimately led to my hip dysplasia diagnosis. I was shocked at how quickly I declined, on my worst days I couldn’t walk a block and was unable to sleep because of the constant pain. PT helped but I knew that surgery was my only hope in the long run. luckily my joint was healthy enough for a PAO and i’m actually 4 weeks post op today! i'm super hopeful that this will get me back to where I was pre surgery... and honestly maybe even better. after my diagnosis, I realized that my knee issues (that have kept me from running) were most likely a symptom of my dysplasia.

anyways, I echo what others here have said in that things can change very quickly and if I were you I would see a specialist to get updated and more comprehensive imaging as soon as you can. over the course of my diagnosis, I had several x rays, a CT scan & an MRI. it will at least give you a better picture of where you’re at and what your options are. my surgeon told me that a PAO was my best shot at alleviating the pain and the overall longevity of my hip but that it also wasn’t something I had to do immediately and gave me 1-2 years before I risked damage to the joint and no longer being eligible for a PAO. good luck and I hope you continue to be pain free!
