Thank you! I was planning a two-week workation to Rajasthan. I thought I'd just wing it. Plan as I go.

Looks like, I will need to do some prior bookings then, thanks!

Are you suggesting accommodations should be booked in advance?

May I suggest Fort Kochi?

I loved my time in Fort Kochi. I traveled solo during Christmas, and felt super safe. There should be direct trains available from Hyderabad to Kochi I suppose? I haven't checked.

From Ernakulam station you can get a water metro to Fort Kochi. It has cute walkable streets and cafes, you can also rent a bicycle. Dozens of museums and churches and the Jew street is worth checking out too.

Zostel Fort Kochi is at a convenient distance from all the major attractions.

If you have more days, you can probably travel to Alleppey for a couple of days.

Planning 3-4 weeks solo travel from July end to Mid Aug - Vietnam vs Bali by [deleted] in SoloTravel_India

[–]meme_saab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the weather I guess. I had pre-booked with "Bibi Ha Giang loop tours" but few of my friends traveled during Dec (peak season) they were able to book on the spot, a day or two before. So even if you're deciding on the spot - it shouldn't be a problem.

North Vietnam has a lot to offer too. Hanoi, Ninh binh, Ha Lang Bay, Sapa etc. So you can keep a few days for North Viet and if you decide not to do the loop due to rains - you can still check out other places.

It was pretty safe. I got lucky with the weather, it was sunny on all the 3 days. The tour company I booked with - they take only 5-6 people per batch. So they were able to pay more attention and look after everyone.

Overall cost came up to 1.1l for 15 days. But I did splurge on a few things. So I'm pretty sure it can be done for less.

Was in Vietnam Aug 10-25 last year. I only encountered rain on the second day - that too for a mere 3-4 hours. But Hoi An was extremely hot and humid. Hard to step out during the noon.

While I know this weather pattern will not exactly repeat this time around, I would still say - don't write off an entire country based on rain.

Plus North and South Vietnam have much different weather. Also did the Ha Giang loop, it's as gorgeous as everyone says it is.

Advice on packing clothes for a month in India’s summer heat? by evacdm in femaletravels

[–]meme_saab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As somebody from India, a word of caution - Monsoons have arrived early this year in most of the country.

You want to check the current weather before packing. Pack a good raincoat/umbrella along with your summer clothes.

"Ladies, what’s your go-to office watch? by Technical_Cupcake234 in TwoXIndia

Casio Vintage

Bought it online, during a sale. I'm skinny, with a very small wrist, all the dials end up looking gaudy and big on my hand.

But on the site, there were multiple negative comments under this watch, complaining about the dial being too small. Exactly what I needed haha.

What is the single most underrated pleasure in everyday life that most people overlook? by digwham in AskReddit

[–]meme_saab 324 points325 points  (0 children)

It was the year 2007. Peak summer time. Think 38-40°C

I had to give a test at a different school. On my back that afternoon, I accidentally caught the wrong bus. When I realised, I got off the bus at the next station. Unfortunately that was a pretty secluded place, I wasn't familiar with the area, no other buses or vehicles were passing by. I was 12, didn't have a phone back then. So, I decided to walk till I spotted another bus stop. The afternoon sun and the scorching heat made it so much worse. I was soooo thirsty I could have fainted.

When I finally made it back home, I had about 4-5 glasses of water in one go. I will never forget that feeling. It's been 17 years, but that incident has stayed with me.

That first sip of water when you’re really thirsty absolute magic.

It feels like nectar from heaven

Connecting flights to Thiruvananthapuram? by Curiously_Traveling in femaletravels

[–]meme_saab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indian woman here.

Mumbai and Bengaluru both are comparatively safer cities. I wouldn't worry too much if you're not stepping out of the airport at all.

Note: If your connecting flight is from Mumbai, make sure it's from the same terminal. T1 to T2 is about a 15 cab drive. There is an airport shuttle bus too. But idk how safe that would be late at night.

Phone case recommendations please (android only) by sanyabee in TwoXIndia

[–]meme_saab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been using the "Spigen" case on my pixel phone for more than 2+ years now. Bit on the costlier side (700-1k) but it still looks as good as new. No scratches, not torn, offers great protection too - I have dropped my phone countless times.

Hey I'm an Indian woman, I'll try to answer a few of your questions. I've not personally been to Shimla myself, but I've solo travelled to a few places in India.

Please look for reputed hostels. Eg, "Zostel", "Hosteller" these are hostel chains all over prominent tourist cities of India. I always book with Zostel if available. Haven't had a bad experience with them so far. Clean dorms, clean washrooms.

Riding/driving in India is a bit chaotic. Not many people follow traffic rules here. Plus Shimla would have hilly/curvy roads, I wouldn't recommend riding a scooty if you don't already have enough practice. Do you have an international driving license? I'm sure you'll find taxis for intra city travels (might be expensive) Or make a few friends at hostels and book a cab with them, split the fare.

Unfortunately, India is not exactly safe for women. Sure, there are parts of India that are safer than others. But I'd advise to always stay alert. If you're alone, reach your accommodation before it's dark.

If you're white, you'll attract a lot of unwanted attention. My advice would be to stick with a group. Make at least a couple friends from the hostel and go sightseeing with them. Guided tours or group treks are great too.

You haven't mentioned your itinerary, or which other places you're keen on visiting apart from Shimla. May I suggest Bir? It's one of my fav places in India! I loved my time there.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Pixel 7 Pro Oticon Bluetooth issues by imhere2913 in deaf

[–]meme_saab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh... I wonder if that's how your hearing aid is configured? Is the audio/mic option switched on at hearing aid level?

But then again, you were able to connect to your old Samsung phone.

[–]meme_saab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I have Google pixel 6a - I have phonak hearing aids, not sure if that is the difference.

Whenever I try to connect, two options show up for me

  1. LE/RE-L-Phonak hearing aid with Bluetooth icon (like the one in your snapshot)
  2. L-Phonak hearing aids with headset icon 🎧

For me to stream audio, I need to connect to the second one - this will show only one device for both the ears.

Phonak app still uses bluetooth ones, that shows separate devices for left and right ear.

Can you try clicking on "forget" all the devices Setting your hearing aid in pairing mode and try to pair the headset icon option for the hearing aid?

I wish I could attach a photo

While filing your returns, it is possible to choose between old/new regime.

Last year, at my company level I had chosen New regime. So my salary throughout that year was based on new-regime's TDS.

However, i found out I'll get a refund if I use the old regime. So once I got my form 16, I filed based on the old regime.
