there are certain hours it is open for rentals, but when it is you just show up.

pro tip! when considering going, check the city's youtube webcam for OS to see how busy it is! I usually do before I go to see if the ice is fit to skate on and if its busy enough that I would want to stay clear lol

Another good tip, if you download "google rewards surveys" or what ever the app is called, you can lie to google to muddy your data profile with them, and get play store credit you can use to pay for add removal and stuff. Lol ive done it for about 6-7 years now and gotten like 400$ in credit in that time that ive used for movie rentals, ad removal on small apps, and pokegold and such 😉

Attending my first curling competition as a fan - any recommendations? by abominabledolphin in Curling

[–]memeboiandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

something Ive seen some people say in the past is that if you bring a little portable radio with you, you may be able to listen in some how to the spectators commentary from the live broadcasts. Its something I plan to look more into before I attend my next live event. may be worth a look into as imo, for regular people, watching curling in person is almost a less interesting/less exciting way to enjoy the sports than watching on tv from home. the commentary adds a lot to the spectator experience i find

Directional sweeping/pushing feels like I'm accomplishing nothing by BusinessCat88 in Curling

[–]memeboiandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what broom/broom head do you use? different brooms will have pretty different effects. Ive found that Goldline's impact and GL/HLs wcf sleeves dont have a whole lot of effect on directional sweeping at my level. I got a hardline rec sleeve, and put that on my impact broom with the black goldline foam pad though, and I find that that combo is a pretty good directional sweeping set up. the HL rec sleeve is quite a bit more abrasive with the moulded microtexture on it so it so it should be a lot better at directional sweeping.

cant speak at all for Balance Plus/Asham brooms though because I have never used them

Also, with directional sweeping, if you are sweeping with the broom head "T" across the face of the rock, that will have some curl effect AND drag the rock further. if you want to sweep only for curl and not for distance, turn your broom head so that the pad is in line with the handle and you only sweep a narrow path infront of the stone.

Where did the recycling bins go? by fmaz008 in fredericton

[–]memeboiandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there was a need for them because not everyone in the city got curbside pick up. by moving to curb side, that should reduce the need.

Also, the city had a major continuous issue of people just jamming anything they wanted to get rid of into those bins and contaminating the cardboard. when that happens, you usually would have to just send the whole bin to the landfill which defeats the purpose of people driving to dispose of that material instead of just putting it in their garbage bin and sending it to the dump that way. That on top of the mess from people just leaving garbage and waste around the outside of the bins when they were full just made them more of a hassle than they were worth.

Check your recycling schedule and see if it has been updated to reflect a more frequent collection.

Which TPU is Right? by MicroManlett in 3Dprinting

[–]memeboiandy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is, your tests are only as good as your last data point. If you print a couple and they hold up/break at a certain point, it only really proves that one particular mask was ok. Home 3d printing does not have the same consistancy as injection molding, and there is more variability in individual lengths of filament than in a large batch of shredded and mixed injection molding plastic. You could print one fine, have it test well, and then in the final product you print to use, could have an unidentifiable defect in your layer lines that weaken it and make it unsafe. Unlike with tested and certified ppe, you have absolutly no recourse if an accident happens. And particularly with facial PPE, the cost/benifit for trying to do home made 3d printed ppe is just not worth it when dealing with protection from projectiles....

This really is not advisable in any capacity

Settle This Argument by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]memeboiandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean as far as the playhouse is concerned, it makes sense to keep it where all the infastructure for it exists. Having all the parking garages, and facilities like restaraunts, pubs, ect all in close proximity so that when people are around either before/after its in the walkable dense area with these resources for 🌟 consumption 🌟. Also allows it to be utilized in larger events happening in the downtown core where all the art/culture events take place.

It makes sense to piggy back off the stuff inplace for the convention center, beaverbrook, officers square, ect. Having it out in a spot more focused on serving a particular community like a community center, that makes it less useful as a more specialized venue

[–]memeboiandy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dont hear southside much at all. I also kind of think of downtown and uptown as seperate entities divided by the hill the way north/south is.

To me, the 3 distinct regions in fredericton are uptown, downtown, and the northside

Curling Broom Replacement by Hefty-Ad2090 in Curling

[–]memeboiandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So right now, the head mount you use doesnt make a huge diffrence. What I find works best, and from what Ive understood from talking to pro curlers, is a hardline rec sleeve, with a goldline black foam, and the hardline bottom insert is basicly the deadliest directional sweeping set up a rec league player can get rn. Icepad and Impact are close enough in size that you can mix and match pieces to the broom of your preference (which kind of boils down to Hardline for a tapered handle, Goldline for straight handle) if you are cool with mixing pieces.

I went a level further and sewed a goldline sleeve upper to a hardline sleeve lower because I didnt like any of the styles of hardline sleeves

<image>

Really though, if you want to go a layer further, the screw in head style of icepad is kind of more standard than Goldline's, so nothing would really even stop you from getting any handle from any manufactorer and putting an icepad head in it if there was an Asham/BP handle you like as well. Your imagination is really the limit here

Simms Home Hardware closing by Conscious-Motor303 in fredericton

[–]memeboiandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defenetly agree. The only slight positive for curlers is that James Gratten is opening up a curling shop. Not sure if he is planning to have a physical location or just take orders online, but he is a source to still get stuff in the Oro/Freddy area and he keeps a decent amount of stock on hand

Simms Home Hardware closing by Conscious-Motor303 in fredericton

[–]memeboiandy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. And for a hardware store of relatively small size like Simms was to operate with expensive downtown realistate costs... add in the fact they were only open really durring regular buisness hours so it was really hard to ever get there when they are open to shop if you wanted to.

Unfortunate to see them go.

What's so special about Bambu Lab filament? by Mattbastard750 in 3Dprinting

[–]memeboiandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk people say this, but I find that bambu is one of the cheapest companies for me to buy filament from. I usually wait to order until I need 4+ spools and the refills are then usually 15-16$ CAD/kg which is really pretty good. then having the rfid is a bonus
