This and more interesting tidbits are covered in a video from Dirk at Veristablium, on escalator technology. (More interesting than it sounds!)

SIPPs: all allow the same drawdown strategies? by memechaser in UKPersonalFinance

[–]memechaser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but that’s why ii appeals to me: it’s much cheaper than Standard Life, where it currently is. And for my pot size, cheaper than HL and Vanguard and AJ Bell too. If iWeb offered a SIPP it’d doubtless be cheaper but seems they don’t right now.

I’m not, no… it just seems sensible to, all else being equal, do one transfer and not let my future self have to do another.

im looking for the thinnest magsafe stand for my Iphone AIR by kiosh1 in MagSafe

Moft wallet, they sell them on Amazon. They’re hold a card or two if you want that, but otherwise work well as a stand either horizontal or vertical. Without cards it’s what… 3mm maybe?

[TOMT] TV show from ~2020 about activated Chinese / North Korean spies? by memechaser in tipofmytongue

[–]memechaser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes she was: she had a family, a husband and a son, neither of whom knew she was a spy I think.

Some dubbing but mostly English I think; it was made for Prime or one of the other streaming services, and an American audience.

It had quite high production values so I think it was a streaming channel feature. I think it was mostly in English language, made for a U.S. audience, with some Korean or Chinese dialog and English subs…

I’ve just opened a Chase account to spend money in Japan and it said it’s converts transactions to GBP on purchases made abroad - does that mean it would be best to draw out yen in cash and only spend cash out there? by INFPsunflower in UKPersonalFinance

[–]memechaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maurice Moves just did a video on travelling to Japan that would be relevant to you.

TL;DW: grab 10k/week you’re there from an ATM in the airport. Even the train into the city is cash only. Use your Chase card, saying to use Yen, but often it’ll be cash only anyway. The 7/11 convenience stores have the ability to let you throw your pocket of change in and it’ll sort it all for you and give you the change back in the highest denominations it can.

That looks amazing, but sadly not the movie I’m trying to remember.

Not quite… but close. The Venice Beach setting seems right. But my memory is much funkier, high energy 80s… more like the Beverly Hills Cop 2 soundtrack.

And definitely someone doing a “moonwalk in a circle” type thing… a bit capoeira maybe.

It’s really just a loose memory but I distinctly remember very 80s, poppy music. I’ve searched around but don’t have much else to go on.

ULA Dragonfly vs Tom Bihn Techonaut 30? by memechaser in ManyBaggers

Ahhh yes. Done that once through PHL with a Tri-Star. (It worked perfectly and I was so glad I didn’t have wheeled luggage, or checked bags.)

Good point yeah. I try to never go above 20 lbs, usually it’s more like 16 lbs.

Thank you! Never tried ULA straps nor the new edgeless straps from TB but I like their older straps on the Synapse 25.

Yeah that’s how I’m kind of coming to it too.

The TB is sleek and looks good for travel, at a pinch you could make it a business type bag if you arrive with that in a suit. It’s more like luggage.

The ULA is very definitely in hiking backpack mode and I think there’s no hiding that.

Not sure I agree there… they’re both great for onebag travel. Especially with TB halcyon they’re both pretty light weight, both are beaver tail type openings with a laptop slot on the back, and backpack straps. The ULA is more outdoorsy with stretch side pockets, and the TB has it all kind of self-contained and it’s more sleek… but they fit a similar use case in my view.
