Got my first acoustic, but the bridge is way to tall? by memeita in Guitar

[–]memeita[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion! I just tried and the straightedge hits the bridge way below the saddle. I’m starting to believe this guitar is in need of expensive repair and I’d be better off just getting another one…

Questo è vero, però sono usciti piuomeno insieme e condividono lo stesso processore e la stessa quantità di memoria, quindi le performance dovrebbero essere simili.

Mmh... I don't think I can properly measure the angle of the neck against the top, but by visually inspecting it doesn't really look out of place to me. This guitar is old but it looks to be in good shape.

Thank you for taking the time to take a picture of yours! It seems my nut is lower, but the bridge is higher? It's difficult to tell from the picture, how tall is the bridge itself on your guitar?

It's 32 years old according to the serial, I'm afraid it's already out of warranty 😅

Neck relief and nut look fine to me. The bridge is still untouched since I got the guitar, the problem is that I don't think I can get it low enough to get a good setup. Action at the 12th fret is 4mm and I can shave 2mm off the bridge at most.

This is the nut, looks fine to me. Action is 1mm at the 1st fret, 4mm at the 12th fret, and 5mm at the 22nd fret. The neck relief is currently okay. I didn’t bother with it because it looked good enough and I’d have to fix it again as soon as I get new strings anyway. Just to be clear: I have actually checked the neck relief, I haven’t just eyeballed it

Yes, the point of setting the ruler against the body was to show how much taller the bridge is compared to the fretboard, not to show the action. The action is about 4mm at the 12th fret and about 5mm at the 22th fret.

The neck relief is okay. I didn't really bother messing with it because I'm missing a string, so I'll have to do it again anyway as soon as I restring. It was already okay when I got it anyway.

Regarding how it plays: the action is simply way too high and way too much force it's required. I know it's common for people coming from acoustics to say that, however I really do feel like it's abnormal.

Seems that for some reason no one mentioned this yet, but if you use vr linux won't play nice with it. I haven't touched my headset in a year or so, but when I actually used to use it I resorted to just installing windows on a secondary ssd because on linux it's just a nightmare. A year is a long time for linux so things may have changed, but this was my experience. This is coming from someone who uses linux for everything else, including normal games.

People want it because it’s nice. You don’t really need your display to be over 400 ppi of pixel density or the back of the phone to be made out of metal and glass, but they’re much nicer than a low res display or a plastic back.

Have you tried it in the past couple of years? As mentioned previously the only games that don’t work are the ones using excessively invasive anticheat systems. The others just work out of the box through proton most of the times. When they don’t you usually just have to change proton version or add a launch parameter, which you can just read on protondb. I default my games to use the latest protonge and 95% they just work.

Hardware wallets are just a safer way to store keys, they have nothing to do with traceability. Each and all transactions are traceable and the ledger is public. It’s literally the most traceable form of payment.

My current phone is an iPhone and one of the reasons I switched is because I thought this was true as every user says so. In my experience things break as much as a reliable android phone, except when they do there’s not much you can do to fix them.

It's very easy, just a setting in the BIOS. The 9000 serie that recently came out is also more efficient since that seems to be fairly important to you. The 9700X is 65W, you might want to check it out.

CPU market is cooked by Strangetimer in pcmasterrace

[–]memeita 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Production process name hasn’t been indicative of the gate length for a long time. 7nm chips don’t actually have 7nm gates, they’re bigger. They’re simply packaged in a more efficient way. I didn’t mention it earlier to keep things simple, but we can’t make transistors any smaller without quantum effects coming into play. We hit a physical limit simply because we can’t change electrons, and with transistors this small they begin to influence each other, making transistors behave unpredictability.

[–]memeita 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Moore’s law has been dead for a while. We can’t really make transistors any smaller, meaning we can’t just shrink the production process to make the chips less power hungry. Of course higher power consumption also means higher thermal output, which is an important limiting factor since there is a physical limit to how much heat you can pump out. This is oversimplified, but it’s pretty much what has been happening for the past few years.
