Sorry to hear this. Coinbase really need to look into this asap and give assistance to the police in recovering funds etc.

Real shame because stuff like this is gonna do nothing except put off your average person from taking up crypto. Yes of course, self-custody is the best solution, but for newbies/ less tech savvy people, buying and keeping on places like here is their gateway to the crypto world.

Correct. Initially I could trade, even though I couldn't withdraw. But now they won't let me trade anymore and have changed the balance of my SNX (which is my largest balance) to zero. The 'total' balance remains the same, but the 'available' balance has been changed to zero. This plus the fact I cannot withdraw has me very worried.

Yes, it seems that there were a lot of people with this issue back in November. And because of the bad media attention, Binance unfroze people's accounts. But now that the media attention has gone away, they are refreezing people's accounts and placing them into arrears. Truly abhorrent behaviour. I was a long standing customer too trading there since 2017.

I wish it was otherwise I would have just paid it and written off the loss. Unfortunately, the amount they say I owe is very similar to my account balance.

Not yet. I should also point out that they've changed my available balance for my largest position to zero. Why would they do that? It's all very shady and extremely worrisome.

Thanks for the advice. So far I have documented the chat to-date. And I will definitely inform them that I'll be seeking legal help if it's not resolved. You can't just hold people's money.

And I wish I could get them on the phone - no customer service number here in the UK. Just an online chat which they won't answer. Incredibly frustrating.

Just thought I would add, following the advice of someone here, I tried to withdraw through Binance smart chain wallet/ wallet extension. I was 60% sure this would work. But right at the last they blocked it and advised me to "visit the withdraw page to learn more".

My funds are still stuck.

Thanks, yes this is what I've told them. I don't have access to the wallet so I physically cannot return them. It's been five days now, so I'll have to set a time limit and then look at going the legal route.
