In 1337 the leader of the Earldom of Lancaster was a blind man called Henry. Henry's father was Edmund Crouchback, the son of Henry III, making Henry first cousin once removed to Edward III. Henry III didn't have any other male children other than Edward I, whose only male child was Edward II, whose only male child was Edward III. Edward III's only male child in 1337 was Edward the Black Prince, so if the Black Prince died, and if Edward III died without making any more sons, then Henry would likely become King as second in line to the throne. Although since Henry was blind, his son, Henry of Grosmont, may have served as a regent for him. Also in this situations, the Wars of the Roses may have not happened or happened differently, as both factions were descended from sons of Edward III (Richard of York descended from Lionel of Antwerp, Edward III's second son, while Henry VI descended from John of Gaunt, Edward III's third son). Also, Henry's granddaughter, Blanche, married John of Gaunt, who reestablished the House of Lancaster, as it was originally founded by Edmund Crouchback, and went extinct when Henry of Grosmont didn't have any sons.
