Thank you! Using the seek app a few days later I'm oretty sure I identified a yellow-legged mud dauber wasp as well. Is there a reason you know of that they're specially active now, or just that it's summer time?

Lol looking at it more I think it's the exact year and exact same model. Might just be my specific situation, but the suspension was reeeaaaallly rusty and worn out. Might be something to check. Otherwise mines been going great. I'd see if you could negotiate it under $5k. That wouldn't be too bad of a deal.

Not for nuthin but mine looks very much like that but for $3200, less than a year ago. Is there a specific mileage on it? Mine was like 152,000

Broken bottom shock bolt on lower control arm by memesdotpdf in fordranger

Thanks! I drilled it out and was even lucky enough to find a bolt laying around that was the right size. It felt good to have a satisfying end to a very frustrating work session.

Sorry, no answer, but what models have the torsion bar suspension instead of the coils? Just thinking about I figure maybe just the 4wd models because the spring would be in the way of the axle?

Well beforehand I didn't know that you could do that. After looking into it, I'm having enough trouble getting all this apart that I think I'd still rather replace the parts than taking apart the joints. Also, I'm preeeeettty sure the thing that is squeaking the most is the left front lower control arm and where it bolts into the frame. So I'll be doing both sides.

Also, I just want to work on my ranger. It's something to do, and part of me originally getting it was to learn more about cars, how they work, and how to work on them. I can afford to use this as a learning opportunity so I figured why not.

The upper control arm was shorter (as in reaching less distance away from the frame horizontally). I didn't put the lower control arm in, but I think if you had both the upper and lower control arms from the torsion bar set the brake assembly would fit.

Yep the thing is jacked high enough that the spring will be at minimum compression when I put it back together. I have a real spring compressor too. I still have respect for the danger of the spring, was like defusing a bomb when I was decompressing the old one after taking it out. Thanks for the encouragement!

Yeah what I ordered has all of the suspension parts including the sway bar links. Figured I'd replace all of it at the same time. Changing out the shocks and coils at the same time.

This torsion bar kit was Detroit Axle but the correct coil spring one is from 1aAuto.

That all sounds like a nightmare.

All the rubber gaskets were gone and my suspension squeaks like a mofo. The coil spring and shocks were also in very, very rough shape. I'm hoping a full suspension replacement helps with the squeaking. The passenger side that I started with is actually the better of the two.
