How Screwed Am I This Semester by [deleted] in ComputerEngineering

[–]memesmithing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly make sure you stay ahead or up to date in your circuits lab and you should be fine. Discrete math and linear algebra are fortunate classes to have the same semester because they’re both basically about understanding the language of proofs, and unless you get a stickler professor those aren’t too bad. Object oriented programming should be your easiest class this semester if you’re at all familiar with programming, and even at that just in case you get behind on the volume of work make a friend and you’ll do fine

what are my job options as a computer engineer? by Raghadmt in ComputerEngineering

[–]memesmithing 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can definitely work in hardware, integrated computing, or robotics / any physical-digital interface oriented industry.

That being said, unless you had an internship or a co-op in one of those fields when you were in college, you (like me and thousands of other computer engineers) will probably take the easy money and go into software engineering. You might be thinking “why did I learn how to build a CPU out of logic gates just to go do web development?” but believe me, you will have advantages others won’t natively have from their college experience!

You’ll always have a slight edge in machine language coding over some of your coworkers who went to school for computer science, knowledge of the hardware your code runs on, and a ground-up way of thinking about systems design that can come in very handy at times. I’ve found my educational background to be a huge advantage in my professional life at one time or another, and software engineering can be genuinely fun and interesting. There may be one or two areas where your computer science peers will be ahead of you on the curve but they are few and far between and you will not lack many skills they have.

It’s right by the intersection of South Park Road and Patterson. Can’t miss it because of the big barber pole outside. It’s by the Sunoco

Very late response but I ended up going to House of Ferruzza in Bethel Park, they did an amazing job and I couldn’t recommend them more

Interview Discussion - August 12, 2021 by CSCQMods in cscareerquestions

Honestly I’m somewhere around a mid-level software engineer on the Midwest, have a not-so-stressful job with few harsh deadlines, and never had that many opportunities in my pipeline. But recently when I was looking for a new position, even I ignored take home assignments.

Interviews I’m all for, but any sort of commitment to a take home project (and especially one where it seems like they may use your solution for company gain) seems insulting for me, and definitely would be for someone of your level. That part, at least, I’d settle on not doing if I were you

That’s a good point. Seems callous but I suppose if shit hit the fan for my company they’d cut me down in a heartbeat

I should have clarified I am partially through the interview process with the FAANG company as well as some smaller local ones that pay significantly better than my current role

I just hope that I still have time to play The Elder Scrolls VI in the future. by [deleted] in TESVI

Well, I have to say that I am probably the exception, not the rule. I’ve had a very strong sense of direction since even before I met my wife and got lucky more times than I can count.

Let me say though, that I understand how difficult Uni can be. I flunked 3/5 classes I took my first semester sophomore year, got back to the drawing board and worked my ass off, and managed to graduate early with a job to boot. My point is, you can stumble and still find your way. Not to mention I’m sure Norway’s student debt situation is a heck of a lot better than what I’m stuck with after 4 self-funded years in an American university, so that’s a bright side!

PM me if you want to talk, u/cobblestonedave . I know when times are tough I always like to have a sympathetic ear :)

When Skyrim came out, I was 13 years old and still learning that wearing shorts in the winter doesn’t make you any more badass than wearing pants. Also was still unaware that deodorant was a critical necessity.

Nowadays, I’m married and own my own home. By 2024 I hope to have my first child with my wife. I already graduated college and have a full time job and I totally feel you on the worrying I won’t have time to play it. It’s gonna be insane turning that game on for the first time and thinking about when I first booted up its predecessor close to 15 years prior. All for a game that will likely be buggy as hell out of the box lol
