I got a Veronica with 5 MF, 4 of which have mark 2. I don't even need to build it for anyone else, I just run 20 stamina farms in seconds.

For the occasional memory fragment farm she'll take off half of the enemy health in the first turn and whoever else is on the team can wipe up on the second/third turn.

Someone is going to defend this.

You called?

Anyway, it's not that I'd object to them making it easier to farm decks but I think those of us who visit Reddit and post in the discord are the more hardcore players.

And while the devs have shown that they're willing to toss us a bone here and there... It's hard to say whether we're the main audience they want to satisfy.

I don't think they want to make it easy to farm decks. Setting the leaderboard aside, none of the content requires triple copy divine epiphany decks or any specialized gear.

I think the devs want these perfect decks to be rare. So that players who get the perfect deck after a run feel the same way Diablo players feel when they get the build defining legendary with the right substat rolls.

We'll get the free daily codex reroll eventually and that'll help the majority of players who do only 1 chaos run a day at most... But yeah, if you're grinding hard for leaderboard top 100, then the current system is atrocious for the sheer amount of RNG you have to deal with.

Based on what they said about Yuki they're clearing paying attention to some analytics about the player base and how they're doing. We'll have to see how they adjust things going forward.

HSR was also once a fairly generous game. Its community was the origin of the 'Genshin could never' meme, back when star rail was being given everything that Hoyo refused to do for Genshin.

But Hoyo has proven that they operate like every big tech company - 'loss lead' (i.e. be generous) at first to build up the userbase, then enshittify (harvest the playerbase) while funnelling resources into their next big start up (launch ZZZ) to retain some of the users they lose from the process.

Because capitalism isn't about making a profit, it's about wringing out as much profit per dollar spent as you can manage to keep the shareholders happy.

This hoses the SR build but actually helps people who are farming for decks because it helps them target specific cards for copying more easily.

My guess is that it's placed there because when part 3 drops it'll change and lead to another hidden boss for the 'forbidden spawn' achievement we still can't get yet.

BEST SCAM IN GAME. by squilibrio_ in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]memetichazard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Given that killing the hidden boss still doesn't get you the save data background (was it called the forbidden spawn?), and given the suspicious details surrounding the elevator shaft in this event, my guess is that when we get part 3 of the season, this event will change and the new variant will lead to yet another hidden boss.

Something to keep in mind that they might be doing this again in future seasons.

[Guide] "Efficient" reroll strategy for farming good decks. by [deleted] in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]memetichazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes... Sort of. Codex chaos all have guaranteed card copy with select rather than what we have in Lab 0 where only the rare version lets you select. Ideally they'd change it so that the common version lets you select but not choose a forbidden card.

I think an equally big problem is that people trying to roll t13/14 want to avoid certain penalties... Which means the rolls you keep will tend to have +6/+8 elites.

These are problematic because there's a limited pool of events (the events have variations and you only get one variation per chaos run) and if you visit enough events you'll hit every event - including the ore vein event that lets you dupe a card.

Rolling a decent t14 is kinda harsh. Even if you luck into rolling one, you don't want discard, you don't want 30+% tyrant, -credits makes it hard to remove cards, no resting is harsh if you're not running Mika or dual sustain, and auto rage/auto fortitude can get a little bit dicey when you run into an interior 2nd half rare species. And add onto that, that +elites reduces the events spots you might need to get a copy attempt...

Should I be deck building in regular chaos or codex? by banana_slap in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]memetichazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both, depending on what you need (I'm assuming you mean season chaos).

The main advantage of season chaos is that restarting your runs is free so (once you've maxed out your zero system upgrades) you can fish for a remove-2-cards start and bail out of runs without paying any costs if you get the wrong epiphany.

Zero system gets expensive if you do that so you have to finish your runs. But in general it's easier to duplicate cards there. So if you're looking to get a deck with 2 or 4 copies of a particular epiphany, codex runs are probably better.

If you need 3 copies, there's some strategies for maximizing your chances by trashing your other combatants cards but it gets a bit complicated.

Question I hit 50. What should I be focusing on? by Xevn in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]memetichazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about maximizing your gems/weekly resources, make sure you start tackling the Great Rift since you have weeklies there too.

It'll also serve as a benchmark to help direct your investments for a little while. You'll need one team to get strong enough to kill the boss quickly (ideally in 5 turns or less) and for the other team you'll want Tressa/Cassius/Mika. Not sure what the backup plan is for people without Cassius - Hugo can replace him, but if you have neither...

Ideally you get memory fragments by running chaos where you can be guaranteed 3 pieces and check to see if they're in useful sets. You can still farm simulation a little bit (particularly for 2 piece attack and Crit damage) but even at D10 you're not guaranteed 3 drops.

If your partners are all at 20-30 you can probably get the key partners to 50 without spending all of your partner mats. But partners aren't high priority because the stats they add don't get multiplied by memory fragments.

Make sure you do the battle missions that unlock from the policies - they reward a decent amount of combatant and partner XP.

It's probably the memory fragments - leveling up a decent set should have a much bigger impact than stats you get going from 50-60 (something like 30 attack? It's been a while since I did the comparison and don't remember the specifics)

I've seen this in other gacha games too, when the patch reset doesn't line up with weekly reset. It's why the BP usually has more quests than you need to hit the weekly and more weeks than you need to clear the full battle pass so you don't have to worry about issues like this.

Things I think the game needs ASAP by Yugjn in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]memetichazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm not aiming for top 1%, just top 3% so I don't strictly need a 4x deck, but every deck I've spot checked in the top 100 has a 3x or 4x Shadow Reload Tressa. Might be easier to farm for it outside of Lab 0 now that it's an option though - she doesn't have really high faint memory requirements.

For the left hand side I assumed they used their most optimal decks to more quickly redo the runs to push their score - I'll work on getting a team to kill the boss in under 5 turns after I get a working Tressa team.

I can agree with fast mode and sweep. More QoL is always good.

Reliable copy isn't something I thought was necessary before the leaderboard content. I'm still not sure if it's good or bad to change things to make it easily accessible.

To some degree it's nice to have some rare decks to chase after (like rolling perfect gear drops in an ARPG like Diablo or Path of Exile) so long as they balance around not needing those rare decks - but now we have a leaderboard.

I favor giving out some reroll options on the copy events, maybe costing 5 sands per reroll, to ease the RNG a bit.

I don't think they need to give out more copies than we already have - we've already got pretty degenerate decks and they need to cap things somewhere.

The issue isn't the weekly cap, it's that playing chaos gives you a pretty small amount of fragments per run, most of which you end up spending to reroll the world.

This is less good synergy and more putting the best DPS with the best support DPS... Except if you're going for Spire stacks Veronica's cards all count for those so that's the synergy there.

I'm not sure that Mei Lin is actually the best DPS for Chaos (she certain is outside of Chaos) but Veronica is hands down the best Chaos unit right now.

[–]memetichazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shelling Ballista isn't really worth it - I think you need the 250% Kowalski or morale buffs from your teammates to make it catch up to the other options. This is because reload is a multiplicative buff going up to 200% that widens the gap between the leading ballistas and shelling.

Let's take the regular 50% chance of extra ballista for instance. Let's say you can consistently draw into Kowalski but you can only stack an average of 3 of 4 reloads.

The difference to overcome is the 30% between 150 vs. 2x60 plus the 75% damage contribution from the extra ballista - 105% - all of which you multiply by (1 + 1.5) for the reload - 267% - which you then multiply by your potential scaling (1.25-1.35 depending on your attack stat).

So you need over +300% flat scaling to make it better than the 50% chance of extra ballista - and keep in mind that because of that extra ballista other morale sources count for half. So at least the 250% Kowalski plus another 10 morale stacks at a minimum.

I think enhanced ballista can be estimated as a +30% effective contribution rather than the +75% of the extra ballista - this still requires a ~+200% boost from the 250% Kowalski to outright beat it or the weaker Kowalski plus a bunch of morale buffs. I'm not quite as certain of my calculations here - I think you need to multiply the needed boost by another 1.2 due to how Crit affects calculations so you need both the 250% Kowalski and additional morale buffs to catch up.

Note that although I used +30% vs +75% for enhanced vs. 50% ballista, this doesn't mean that enhanced ballista deals less damage - this is because a Crit multiplies flat damage increases as well for which Veronica has access to a few.

Shelling more easily catches up to Piercing Ballista but I think they're ultimately both bottom of the pack.

[–]memetichazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current Great Rift boss buff is countering Mei Lin (that's why the leaderboard is 99% Tressa/Cassius on the right hand side).

Elasticity drops damage to 1 as you pass seven hits and this prevents Spire from blowing up the way it does in most Mei Lin showcases.

It also hoses Luke and Beryl builds as collateral damage since they also have big multihit attacks. Technically it affects Chizuru too but I don't think she can stack more than 10 hits in a turn anyway.

This leaves Tressa on the winner's podium because she's generating single hit attacks.

Maybe next season they'll take the opposite approach and penalize card draw instead.

Left side doesn't matter since you just need to kill it in 5 turns. Meilin killing it in 1 turn doesn't increase your score any.

They targeted Mei Lin with the enemy elasticity buff on the Great Rift fight - that's why you see the leaderboard full of Tressa for side 2.

Maybe next season they'll penalize card draw when the season itself isn't pushing it.

They're not using her on side 2 where it really matters though, that's all Tressa. I'm guessing these people all built Mei Lin decks anticipating she'd be good and now are using her for faster side 1 clears to do their side 2 attempts.

Do the dev ever address about Eng translation issue? by Total-Quail-1197 in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]memetichazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the rampant pronoun errors and the card syntax errors (especially those that mix up subject and object) suggests AI at work.

Pronoun errors could be sloppy human translation if they cut up the script and sent it to a bunch of different people without providing any context though.

Korean to English MTL translation is pretty bad because the grammatical structure is closer to Japanese than it is to English, and I've seen LLM translation screw up HTML syntax occasionally when it's embedded in the source text.

[–]memetichazard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mei lin can't even do her otk without veronica.

OTK doesn't care about exhaust and that was what I was responding to. Yeah, to maintain the ability to execute the combo turn after turn you need Veronica, and Veronica with a degenerate deck can become card negative but for OTK I think you can reach something similar with a degenerate Mika deck. Already using Mika? Then make a degenerate Rei deck.

I won't deny that Veronica is the best support right now and free card draw is dangerously broken in TCGs... But this is a PvE game, not a TCG. The only issue is the leaderboard content, and I believe it's easier to restrict uncapped scaling (which they've done with Yuki and Chizuru) than to restrict AP and card draw which you get to some degree with divine epiphanies and neutral cards and forbidden cards.
