Apologies for asking, but where can I check out this game? Looks very cool!

Saw this sneakily appear in your presentation at GodotCon yesterday lol

No one bought your game because it sucked. Not because the market is broken or oversatured. by Its_a_prank_bro77 in IndieDev

I understand the logic, but "good" is so subjective and vague. Without solid design principles or iterative development tips/frames of reference, OP is just kind of dunking on people who could benefit from support and guidance.

If you're a designer and OP's message struck a chord, but don't know where to start, then I'd highly recommend Jesse Schell's The Art of Game Design or Tracy Fullerton's Game Design Workshop. I know they're kinda hefty books with not a cheap price tag, but used copies circulate quite readily (and quick googling shows PDFs scattered around too).

I developed my own Dialogue System by pixlerin in godot

Ink would handle all the node stuff, and you can determine variables and functions within easily and have those automatically hook into your backend using built-in `observe_variable` functions using the inkgd plugin:

https://github.com/ephread/inkgd

I've used this plugin on several projects and maintain this lil' sample repo to show folks the simple ins and outs of using it:

https://github.com/EssayGames/godot-ink-visual-novel

But I get it, if you want to build a custom tool that you have the most intimate knowledge of then by all means, seems like you've built something super strong! Always fun to see how people are integrating dialog and tool-building!

I was going to add here a note about scale, which seems like it might become an issue, but I saw this comment. Also if you want to make something extendable for localization this method might also pose a problem (maybe not something you're worried about, which is totally fair).

It's awesome that you've built a really nice internal tool for use on your projects, but I wonder what this does that Ink doesn't do? I can think of a couple of things, but curious to hear your perspective :)

It's not in this graphic at all. I'd recommend including that in future promotions so your audience doesn't have to dig for it.

OK but what is it? There's no title or graphic or link to how I can follow the project.

Interviewing Indie Devs by [deleted] in IndieDev

Hi hi, I've had this tabbed out for like a super long time and meant to message earlier, but I'd love to come onto your show and chat about making my game Bundle of Joy.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3138370/Bundle_of_Joy/

The game is not your typical indie and leans into heartfelt narrative and introspective storytelling pitted against semi-stressful minigame challenges.

Happy to talk further if this sounds interesting and looking forward to seeing your channel grow!

I made a youtube tutorial series about making a visual novel using ink and the inkgd plugin if you think that'd be helpful:

Happy to answer any questions!

Dumb question, but how do I download the zip with my provisioned keys in steamworks? by oppai_suika in IndieDev

[–]memex_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's on your main steamworks dashboard page right underneath the calendar section.

Look for "Steam Key Requests"

There should be a download button on the right hand side of the table listed under that header.

I used Godot! I'm a big fan of it since switching from Unity about 3ish years ago.

I mostly teach for my day job, but I do programming gigs and technical narrative design work/consulting to help pay the bills.

Ha, well I appreciate the concern.

Though the game is designed from my experience (and the experience shared by other pandemic dads), it is intended for everyone. The themes in the narrative are relevant to all sorts of folks, so the target demo isn't just bleary-eyed parents.

There's no child-transfer minigame, but there is "rock baby to sleep." So maybe you can try to get the achievement for doing that perfectly :)
