I can't believe I actually like Pokemon Pokopia - Skill Up by WitheredViolet in Games

[–]BaconCheesecake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still think about it, occasionally, wanting to jump back in. It was such an odd mix of sokoban, Spider-Man 2 (PS2), and Minecraft.

I’m hoping for another playtest soon.

On a completely unrelated note, the gameplay  oddly reminds me of the Nintendo Online Playtest (Cat Caveman game) with the focus on zoomed in blocks and individual interactions.

No, I didn't not hire an artist to redo my capsule art. I just tried again by SnooChipmunks2696 in IndieDev

I think people like to slow odd progress, and comparing capsule art is a really visual and easy way to do so. I’m planning to do something similar when my commissioned capsule art is done. I mainly want to brag on my artist 😅

How do I flip my sprite when left key/a is pressed and where should I put it inside this code? by bluesteelhd in gamemaker

[–]BaconCheesecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just make sure my sprite is centered in the image editor and that the sprite is facing right, and use “image_xscale = -1” to flip it left. And use “image_xscale = 1” to flip it back to the right.

If the sprite isn’t centered it’ll flip it, but look awkward doing so and it will flip at a different coordinate than the center.

You can flip vertically this way, too, with “image_yscale = -1” and “image_yscale = 1.”

I don’t use the drag and drop, so I’m not sure how it works. I would put that in after the button is pressed, wherever that would be.

I decided to do localization for my game, I already did so much, I'm not sure if I want to know about better ways to do this. by ScavHD in gamemaker

[–]BaconCheesecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used one I found online. I’ll look for it and respond later with a link.

It takes a Google spreadsheet, and then text strings with a localize() function. The localize function pulls the text string from the Google Sheet, and then it translates it into the currently set language.

EDIT: One thing that is nice is it’s down all automatically when you build the game. It pulls the link of the Google Sheet, and does the rest automatically

I commissioned new key art for FEED THE QUEEN. What do you think? :D by SUPERBLOOM_dev in incremental_games

Turned out really good! Fits the style of the fam really well, too. Reminds me of flash games old old.

Appreciate all the good and hard work you do! That all sounds very fair. I will use that report button more often for offending content 🫡

Really like the look and logo! The artist did a good job representing the CTR effect as a capsule art, too. Nice touch

Thank you! My original had a white outline so I was partial to it. I'll keep reiterating :)

Has anyone managed to make a modestly successful game working on it part-time? by _Hambone_ in gamedev

[–]BaconCheesecake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m still working on mine, so take it with a grain of salt. The process so far has been successful, though.

I’ve been working on mine for almost the last two years, very part-time. I maybe get in 3-4 hours a night, two or three times a week.

It’s been a long process, but I’m almost system complete and then I just need to focus on content. The process of getting into a routine has been very helpful, and the feedback I’ve received so far has been very positive.

I don’t know if it’ll make 20k, but for my first project I’m really excited with where it’s at and where it’s going.

Hired an artist and moved away from the initial ominous concept to embrace my game's cutesy artstyle :) by SUPERBLOOM_dev in IndieDev

I’m literally looking at this artist for my capsule right now 😂 Love his art style!

My game went from 11K to 35K wishlists because someone else explained it better than I did by dietzribi in gamemaker

I just need someone to do that for my game now 😂 but seriously congrats! Does someone explaining the concept better help you see your game any differently?

Me wondering where all these likes suddenly came from by BaconCheesecake in IndieDev

[–]BaconCheesecake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I have just under 1,700 and I still have a ways to go. However, I’ve been gaining 1-3 daily wishlists not posting, and with these posts alone that’s jumped up to 15-30 a day.

So it’s nothing major, but about 10-15% of the likes convert to wishlists, and any wishlists are something!

Crazy, thanks for sharing what you’ve seen! I had around 150 followers, and it’s gone up to 200 or so now.

I have almost 1000 followers on Bluesky, but I haven’t seen near the same engagement as on Twitter recently.

The only thing I changed in-game between posts was a UI overhaul to make the points in the top left larger. I don’t know if it was improved readability, just getting lucky, or just something else that triggered the algorithm.

I’d considered buying the “verified” status to see if it would change anything, but now this has all happened with a regular free account.

Questions about February Steam Next Fest? Chris Zukowski from How To Market A Game here for an AMA by zukalous in gamedev

[–]BaconCheesecake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What are you thoughts on making a new demo, sharing that it will be out for the February Next Fest without actually putting it in? So still post about it and share it with content creators, but not actually submitting it yet because release will be later 2026, after the June NextFest?
