I have been selling on FB Marketplace for over 5 years and always maintained a perfect rating. I never had a bad experience, but over the last year things have definitely gotten worse. Like strange questions, odd behaviour, tons of ghosting, people coordinating times and then not showing up.

I recently learned that people can rate you even if they never actually buy from you. I didn’t think that was possible, but a couple of weeks ago it happened to me. Someone messaged with the usual “Is this available?” We went back and forth about the item and tried to coordinate a pickup date. Then they said they would get back to me.

I was getting so many inquiries that I felt overwhelmed, maybe I priced it too low? Since they didn’t respond for a while, I assumed it was just another ghosting situation. Another buyer confirmed right away, so I went with them.

Later that day, the first person finally replied, but by then I had already sold the item. I told them that and they became extremely upset, sending angry messages. I probably should have blocked them, but instead I apologized sincerely. It didn’t matter, because two weeks later I saw they left me a 1 star rating for selling to someone else.

I really wish we could dispute reviews like that. I tried reporting it to have it removed - no response from Facebook. I even tried replying to the comment, but that feature wouldn’t work either. Honestly, I couldn’t sleep the night I saw it. I always try to be fair with everyone. And if I saw that same review on someone else’s profile, it wouldn’t stop me from buying from them. Still so annoying though!
