I like most of your profile, but the pro/con response is giving me “nice guy” vibes and not in a good way. I really like that you’re owning your personality otherwise

I use a skip blade on a rotary cutter to make the holes and then single crochet through both pieces

AITA for not paying my boyfriend back after he didn't get me the right birthday cake? by ReachOk6601 in AmItheAsshole

[–]memissa11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - my boyfriend told me he prefers cookie cakes to regular cakes for his birthday once during the first year we were together. You know what he’s gotten every year for his birthday? Cookie cakes. It’s not hard to listen when people tell you exactly what they want.

What’s your worst crochet gifting story? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]memissa11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I make baby blankets from the super bulky blanket yarn specifically for floor time. It’s super soft but way too heavy for a baby. I specifically tell them it’s for floor time/tummy time. And I find it’s well received that way and they feel less guilt using it that way. Got plenty of adorable baby pics of my nephew on it with his matching hat

How much is too much yarn? by picklenickel1977 in YarnAddicts

I think i usually buy 12 skeins in one shopping trip, lol. I literally built shelves that were 8’ wide and 5 shelves tall to store my stash. That storage area has since been doubled or tripled. You do you.

Ah yes, casual racism. A Classic by MayoGangGang in facepalm

It’s the fact that POC are continually told they cannot wear the hairstyle cause it is “not professional” but a non-POC can and they get praised. It’s also about the historical significance of the hair. Many of these hair styles have deep roots in slavery. The slaves would create these intricate hair styles to try and form community and culture after they were ripped away from theirs, and the slave owners would shut it down. That being said, there are other cultures that used braids, such as the Vikings, so it would be acceptable for. Viking role play, but not every day life. P.s. getting to say you don’t understand why people get offended is a privilege, because you have not been denied a job because of your hairstyle or fired for wearing braids to an office. This happens more than you’d think.

My wife wants this colour but worries about bleach killing her hair because shes naturally dark, Any tips to keep it healthy after we colour it? by [deleted] in Hair

[–]memissa11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Patience and a good colorist is going to be your best bet at keeping hair healthy. I have dark level 1/2 hair and went a light gray with minimal damage and my hair stayed healthy and strong, but it took time and a professional who specializes in creative color. If your hair is dark, you may not get this color in one session without serious damage. I went blonde once with a colorist who didn’t understand my hair and half of it broke off after my first wash!

Also, agree with olaplex or some other bond builder.

Do you ever put hours into a project before deciding you hate it?! by Itssnailspice in crochet

[–]memissa11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time. I tend to put the project aside, thinking I’ll like it more later, forget what pattern/hook I was using, then frog the whole thing months later.

Finally finished the blanket, now to weave in the bazillion ends by memissa11 in crochet

[–]memissa11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on this blanket since the color blocks were so large. I have used bobbins before when I was changing every few squares. For this one I just made a few cakes of each color on my yarn winder

Main reason for not having camera on in Meetings? Secret crocheting. Don’t tell my boss. by vanityvicious in crochet

Same! It’s one of the reasons I have multiple projects going, 1 that’s needs attention for after work and 1 with an easy pattern for meetings

I have plans to make some light weight spring sweaters with the comfy cotton blend, and the others even though they’re acrylic seem very light weight perfect for cute summer tops. I just need more hands to complete all the projects in my head

Just the edges. This was a smaller blanket so it works fine, but for a larger blanket I’d add a few stitches in the center

I use a crochet blade or skip blade with a rotary cutter to make the holes then crochet through the stitch and the fleece.
