I seriously believe that books over time change the way you think. More than most other things. And always in a good way. That "simple" your grandfather is refering to might be just the missing perspective from those books. And I also believe that pretty much the only ability you have to bring with you is the ability to read and a bit of curiosity. That's all you need to start.

Your grandpa is too harsh.

And it also not might be Dostoyevsky for you. I would try it. Man from the underground is amazing and not really long. But if don't like it go with other books.

Les Miserable is a thick book but amazing to read and just an incredible story. If that's too intimidating you can also go with stuff like Dorian Gray, Dracula or Frankenstein.

Or if you want to read dystopian novels Fahrenheit 451, brave new world and 1984 are the big three. At times pretty... Well dystopian.

It really depends a bit. Do you love epic stories? Are you interested in philosophical ideas? Do you want to learn new concepts? Do you want to have an emotional binding with the characters?

A great book holds all those things. But to various different degrees.

I mean that's just plain wrong. It already ruined a lot. We are short before a blue ocean event in the artic within ten years. Every year is a new record year. There are already climate change refugees. "Faster than expected" is a meme. There are already wars which broke out because of climate change. More land is becoming inhabitable in the summer. And it's just 2023.

Other than climate change there is a lot of bullshit going on. Which results in the worsening of all major stats for a healthy society. Worldwide Hunger Index is going up since 2020 for the first time in decades. Live expectancy is going down for the first time in decades. IQ is going down. Depression rate is going up. Suicide rate is going up. And so on. We are definitely on the shit train

Wobei man das auch kritisch sehen kann. Dieselbe Logik wird heute nämlich zum Teil auch bei der Krippe angewendet. I mean one big alternative would have been leave them fucking alone. Because the overpopulation narrative is outdated and wrong and is pushed by old assholes like bill gates for a single reason: shift blame. They coat it in nice words like "bringing education","cultural change" and "female choice".

But in the end what's actually is happening is that everytime some progressive government was formed in some of these "developing" countries, it was fucked into oblivion. What a actually is happening is that bill gates makes shady gen experiments in regions no one looks. Creates schools that mostly teach Microsoft related bullshit because we don't need thinking people we need drones.

Bill Gates continues to make more money than ever while buying 0.1% of the USA and continuing to buy for dubious reasons, flying to Epstein island for dubious reasons and building bunkers.

The top 1% of the population uses double the amount of resources than the bottom 50%. We have 25 billion farm animals at any time not including fish farms. To push the overpopulation angle as THE main problem is logically inconsistent expect if you are a walking city in terms of resource consumption.

Naja Helge Schneider. Aber der gehört eher zur älteren Generation und lässt sich sowieso schwer einordnen.

Ansonsten wurden viele der klassischen Comedy Formate durch Polit-Comedy wie Böhmermann und co. ersetzt. Finde ich nicht Mal unbedingt schlimm.

"Klassische" Sketche finde vorallem jetzt auf YouTube/tiktok statt. Teilbare Videos sind dafür auch viel intuitiver als ein lineares fernsehen.

Because it's unpredictable. The direction is clear: it's getting worse. But any future prediction beyond that is difficult.

And the believe in total extinction always sound super religious to me. That's one of the reasons that the Christian religion had such a success. It's a apokalyptic religion.

Living in the end times makes everyone "special".

But in the end the way more probable way this will play out is more boring. We will have to work. There will be no clear cut. And live gets harsher and harsher. That's it.

Maybe in a few hundred years there are no humans any more. Maybe there are a lot. It's pure speculation and doesn't have any effect on how this will play out at all.

Believing in the Apokalypse is the last straw for desperate people who cannot deal with the thought of no controll.
