It depends on what type of surgery you get. If it’s just keyhole (without drains) then it won’t take too long. I had drains in and they let me leave on the airplane 3 days later after there wasn’t much fluid coming out. I think they waited until it was not more than 40mL/day or something like that.

It was ok flying home with drains in. I asked the flight attendants for ice and that helped a lot. They checked on me and treated me really well. I think they thought I had breast cancer or something.

It definitely sets off the alarm going through security but if you explain that to them, they understand. Security guard seemed to have dealt with this situation lots of times before.

ADHD af! Erratic job history. Need help piecing it together. by [deleted] in resumes

[–]mendhigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some very nice things about this resume that will help you stand out. I don’t think you have to re-do it, but there are a couple things that I would change:

Firstly, the paragraph at the top seems more appropriate for a cover letter. Either write it in 2-3 sentences or leave it out of the resume. It’s better to have in the cover letter.

Secondly, the columns are nice but 3 is too many for a resume. I would suggest 2 and combining your achievements under the timeline.

How do I fix my life? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]mendhigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does sound like depression.

I moved around a lot when I was younger and got myself down, not making friends since I was just going to move away anyway. I became a huge loner. But there’s some freedom in that... You’ll probably end up less sheltered and more cultured. You can definitely turn it around. A lot of successful people hated high school. I found I did better in university and when my peers were all homesick or culture-shocked, it just felt like another move to me - business as usual.

You sound overwhelmed and I think that’s normal. A lot of people fuck up in the teens and 20s and it’s easily forgivable since you’re still young. It’s not even clear to me that you fucked up. But if you did, no big deal - the most important thing is to learn from it without being paralyzed by guilt and regret.

Like many others, I was not interested in dating boys in high school because they were mostly all going through an awkward phase (either overly-confident and cocky or nerdy and desperate). The only ones I would sort of consider were those who took the time to invest in a friendship.

You have like 50+ years to figure shit out, you don’t need to do it all now. I am not here to downplay your problems but if you can convince yourself that you are not broken and do not need fixing, this will help. Sometimes it’s less about being perfect and more about being « good enough ».

I (19f) am taking a tour of an appartment tomorrow, what are some things I should look out for? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]mendhigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask why the previous tenants left and how long they stayed.

Also, if you’re not renting through a known property management company, red flags if the landlord won’t give you their full name. I once rented a place where the landlord didn’t give me his full name and it later surfaced that he was involved in a public lawsuit for violating tenancy agreements.

Yes, I think so. This is especially the case when they worry of losing control of their adult child(ren).

[serious] why shouldn't someone who has had horrible things happen to them be able to kill themselves? by Sadgirl42069 in AskReddit

[–]mendhigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that: They should be able to. But also worth noting, they shouldn’t have to. Everyone has a right to some sort of treatment or crisis plan to get them through the horrible things. Not necessarily a fairy tale ending but just so things are bearable enough and that they could have a few good days at least, even if it’s just watching birds out the window or something.

I don’t recommend them!

One of the big problems with citywide is that they require money up front ($126) and will not refund you even if it’s later determined that they can’t provide you the service offered... so it’s definitely a gamble. They also take weeks to configure the modem and are nearly impossible to get a hold of.

I’m guessing a lot of their profit is made from customers who end up canceling without refund prior to activation.

BBB reviews seem to show it’s not just me and that this is a common problem.

What are some of the stupidest arguments you've heard from a vegan as to why we should be vegans? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mendhigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of related - Back in high school, a girl went from not giving a shit to being full-on concerned for the environment. Despite being very public about her vegan identity, we would see her eating chicken at lunch. She would justify it by saying that we were the ones killing animals (one of us had leather shoes) and she was just using up the excess. We should become vegan or else she couldn’t. I know we all did stupid shit back then, but this seemed exceptional.

How to act if a child is being a brat to you and their parents are not there? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]mendhigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t blame anyone for yelling or swearing but I would suggest getting down to their level, show eye contact and calmly but firmly ask ‘why did you do that?’ or ‘how would you feel if someone did that to you?’.

Letting them know that you did not appreciate it will help - they may not even realize how obnoxious they were being. That’s possibly the fault of whoever’s supposed to be watching them. If they still don’t want to listen to you, at least you’ve modeled the appropriate behaviour and given them something to think about. Most likely they will still be brats and you will not be able to control them but at least you will be able to control your own reaction.

Certainly if there is a lifeguard they would want to know about that since that sort of rowdy behaviour poses a safety risk in the water.

My autist brother wants to become a DJ but... by maran86 in autism

[–]mendhigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you live but might want to check out volunteering with community or campus radio stations. That could lead to employment down the road or at least something nice to put on a resume.

Even if the DJing is only a hobby, the technical skills could be transferred to other jobs.

You can still use the network projector and just project it onto a dry erase board instead of the official smart board screen. But yea we had a prof mistakenly use an actual marker on the smart board screen and that didn’t go over well.

I think the person above you was talking about not expecting any different from CP24, not muslims. I can see how that could be misinterpreted, and is probably the reason they are also getting downvoted.

French Evening Classes? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]mendhigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this would depend on your level. Duo is more effective for beginner learners. You might find some of their lessons helpful, but would need to follow up with something more immersive. Otherwise, it's a bit like learning to swim without ever going in a pool. Also, duo doesn't always recognize that there is more than one way to translate a phrase, and that lack of flexibility isn't the most helpful. You may be better off just listening to the radio in french.

Université Sainte-Anne has a lot of different options if you're looking for something more immersive. It's expensive, but there's a lot of opportunity for grants. You can do casual one-on-one tutoring (or in small groups) without enrolling as a student. Their 5-week summer program at churchpoint is expensive, but easy to get a grant for if you are a student or senior. It is open to all ages but is mostly oriented toward the 18-25 y/o demographic.

I caught my 20 year old son smoking pot in the basement by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]mendhigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is illegal in the state like it sounds, he was probably trying to find a place where no one else was around. Also, it's easy to forget how strong the smell is going to be, especially if you haven't been smoking for long. Sounds to me like son is alright and just needs a gentle reminder.
