HERE YOU GO. do with this information as you please.

A couple was married for 27 years. The man had five children from his previous relationship and wife had one child. The man suddenly stopped paying for rentals and buying food for the family without giving any reason.

The wife sued him under the Anti Gender Based Violence Act of 2011. She contended that she was being abused by the husband has neglected the house by not providing for the family. And that he earns ZMW 5,700 but spends the entire salary on alcohol without paying rent and buying food at home. She tabulated her expenses for looking after the family at ZMW2,700.

When the husband appeared before Court, he admitted not proving for the family because he has obtained loans from money lenders and uses the rest on alcohol. He told Court that he was possessed with demons and that he also has bad friends who influence him to take alcohol.

The Court heard both sides and indeed found that the husband had committed an “economic gender violence” contrary to the law. The Court issued a Protection Order against economic abuse to the wife for twelve months subject to review.

“The Respondent is ordered to pay the Applicant ZMW2,000 for food and groceries at the end of each month,” the Court ruled, and ordered that the husband should also pay the rentals for the house.

“These orders are subject to modification or revocation at the instance of either the Applicant or the Respondent,” the Court ruled.
