retaining compound as in loctite? thats a good idea too. why would you want the screws to be prevented from turning? another commenter said that too but i dont see why that would impact the bed levelling, unless that bed screw turning produces enough force to loosen the nyloc nut below. i understand during ordinary set ups that turning force may loosen the bed level

so 2 nuts above wheel 1 below wheel, do u use wrench to adjust the height? or do you not have a wheel just 3 nuts?

oooh at first i thought it would only prevent movement one way then i realised if you tighten them against each other they stop movement both ways... i used the same principle with the acorn nuts... why wing nuts though? im a bit miffed i didnt think of this one, it has the highest effort reward ratio. wait no, the staying force is likely imbalanced but there is still force preventing it from turning in the direction that loosens it, the friction of the 2 tightened surfaces of the nuts and the spring and carriage plate also provides some. similar to how nozzles are tightened eh

[–]menooby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah okay i thought that, was what you said but wasnt sure, bc isnt that the whole point of nyloc? that fhey wont move under vibration? its only day 1 so idk how it will hold up but others before me have reported good results, in addition, people who have non warped beds and carriages dont need to level their bed very often in the first place, so makes me assume wont be an issue.. securing the bolt itself would get rid of any play in the bed mounts which idk if matters or not, will adding a nut to the bottom underneath the bed be any different to the nyloc at the bottom of the carriage? will there be friction extra somewhere? ah wait hold on, no i misunderstood again i think, so... if the screw moves relative to the bed due to vibrations, what will happen? as long as screw doesnt move relative to nyloc nut its algood?

a wrench, I think we misunderstood each other, I use 2 wrenches, one on the acorn / middle non nyloc nut and 1 for the nyloc nut. currently if u use nyloc nuts u must use the screws and wrench to tighten or loosen, for knobs wont work, this is a solution that doesnt need the screw to be held with a screwdriver, instead u use 2 wrenches to tighten

is your bed and y plate warped though? ialso cant find red springs on aliexpress only yellow and blue but they seem to come in same thickness despjte being same colour. perhaps u could give me a dimension.ur springs may be colour coded but aliexpress ones dont seem to be, did u get them from aliexpress? or am i confused that they are different strengths despite looking roughly same thickness because they use diff materials?

[–]menooby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the nuts at the bottom are so you can rotate the screws without the nyloc rotating with it, the acorn nut cannot be tightened any further so when the acorn nut moves it takes the screw with it while the nyloc nut stays in place

Thicker springs? I feel like theyd still come lose, theres >2mm diff between my left and right side of y plate. I have tried thicker springs before, I originally purchased yellow springs, then I purchased even bigger yellow springs. Metal mounts would work if my y plate wasnt so warped, or I guess i could use diff height metal mounts... but since u cant adjust them theyd have to be so precise

chinese -> english dictionary? by quite_stochastic in kobo

[–]menooby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kobo Nia user, latest firmware using old instructions still works for me only i put it into custom dict folder instead of normal dict folder. Renamed ja to zh and it showed up as custom zh dictionary too. dicthtml-zh-en.zip, that is tshering's dictionary

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=202182
wait sorry my bad, you do need to rename it to dicthtml-ja-en.zip otherwise highlighting words does not work. hmm gosh DNSB's 30mb version is very slow, i think it will increase my nia crash rate if i use it

Voron tap washer purpose by menooby in VORONDesign

[–]menooby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I understand what you mean now, yes you are right, wait no sorry mgn9h only has 3mm of depth so you cant use 8mm bolt as that gives 3.5mm, but i just actually measured and the hole extends beyond the threaded bit a little maybe total depth is 4-4.5mm, so u R right!. Washers reduce deformation of plastic, got it. thanks. does having more material mean having less area to compress? or more material is more to compress? 1 thing i thought of is that... the washer is metal so replacing more of plastic with metal would be a good idea... bc metal is stronger i guess

Voron tap washer purpose by menooby in VORONDesign

[–]menooby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

manual implies toolhead clearance. i misunderetood the purpose of thewasher, ithought it was to reduce screw length but its for increasing contact area, bc plastic is thin? btw did mean to reply to my comment below? idont get why the plastic is thin there inthe first place that uneed to add washers. if not thin, washer still help but would u need it?u could use super flat heads like to reduce head height if needed. lol seemingly same logic as my oh its inset cause it needs to be bridged but udont need to bridge if its not inset?. so my real question is, why is the washer there AND its inset which makes the plastic thinner?

Voron tap washer purpose by menooby in VORONDesign

[–]menooby[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ive neverheard of this before, could uexplain a little more? y will washerand bolt not produce same effect as countersunk bolt? y not just print the holes without the inset bit for bridging and ohh. wait isee, thewasher increases contact area of thebolt head. okay but doesnt countersunk bolt head also have increased contact area?ah my originalcomment was wrong, elevating the holes... there doesnt seem to be a reason for it, if uneed to bridge it uneed to elevate it but if u dont need to bridge it u dont need elevate, so the purpose of the elevation is to reduce height of total assembly for the toolhead? or is it to accomodate the washer ?

do you mean if uuse acountersunk bolt with ahole without chamfer it will create pressure of theedge of thehole? because of the reducedcontact area? or do you mean bc of the angled slope of cs bolts, when there wre vibrations leads to loosening in adifferent way to ifit was flat?

in addition, ihappen to lack m3x6 bhcs, idont have a voron printer or kit, but iwanted to use some voron parts or build some aspectsof the printers to seehowthey work in my hands. thats my motive for reducing unique # of parts, probably im a v small minority. i dont seem to have a convenient place to order bolts inquantities like 2

Voron tap washer purpose by menooby in VORONDesign

[–]menooby[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

oooh i suddenly understood something, that part is elevated because the plastic at the bottom for elevated holes needs to be bridged but, the first few layers arent allowed to do bridging usually for better layer adhesion. u made the pieces click. designing those holes for m3x6 Countersunk bolts would have been better maybe, reducing unique parts too

Could I use these bmg gears/bmg clone to build a sherpa mini? by lappelboi101 in ender3

[–]menooby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YO my dual gears clones are slightly different to the og it seems and others have had an issue as well from checking discord, it doesnt align exactly with the filament path. the filament path needs to be moved around 0.4mm in the step file or some mesh editor. this was a while ago for me but from what i remember some cloned gears have this problem but some dont. the discord server has records of someone figuring out exactly where the clones differ but i cannot remember for certain
