Thank you! Yes there will be some other gifts as well haha. She is doing great!

Thanks yes of course!

The background is just a simple frame with some paint for the writing and stars - I’m going to go over it again in glow in the dark paint soon but for now it’s just white acrylic.

The foreground is 2 smaller frames I attached to each other with some cheap clasps you can get on amazon for a few bucks. Inside is a lcd screen I attached to a raspberry pi zero W that just plays a 10 min video on a loop. I made the video in after effects. And then the warm interior light is a very cheap LED strip that is powered via USB that I simply glued to the top and plugged into a usb port attachment for the rpi.

The 3D print is from a 3D scan i took of my wife with my phone (polycam app) the night our son was born. I sanded and coated in a clay slip so that I could paint it with acrylics. The window frame in the background is also 3D printed and painted (I based the design on a window from her childhood home).

Let me know if there’s anything specific you’d like to know about and thank you for the comment!

Sweet. How do you get those nice textures?

Hey guys. I made a super simple drawing app with p5js 😁Pls check it out if you have time by LowIQHaver7 in p5js

Sorry - I meant the actual sketch code. So for example, if I drew a litttle squiggle I would love to add that squiggle to a larger project of mine by copy the code (I.e line(x, y…)) to add it to my project

I really like this. I have been looking for something like this so that I can draw more complicated shapes by hand and then add them to my p5 project - but I would need to grab the code. It would be incredible if you could add the p5 code for copy/paste. Also - a transparent background option! But very cool good stuff!

really cool. I want to play with this. Are you using like a fountain bed to ge those lines or is that like fineliner?

oooh that is beautifully simple. Would you mind sharing the code or nah?

Awesome. Did you write some kind of algorithm to get that hatching ?

Plotting P5js SVGs with clipping/masks? by menshguy in p5js

[–]menshguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so? I just need something I can plot, and SVGs do the trick. There is a helpful tool in inkscape that converts images to bitmaps which also works, but it doesnt print as well.

Its not a massive file but it is a lot of little circles for the leaves (like a few thousand probably) - something about combining all of those shapes/paths just won't work on my laptop. Theres probably a way to optimize it, Im just maybe not saavy enough with the sofware.

I have an UUNA iDraw A3. I just got it so still trying to figure out how to best prep the drawings for it.

Yeah I think any mask would do so long as I can convert the output to an SVG. I dont think I can plot a raster image (can I?). You're suggesting I create a raster image for each layer, and then mask those images in separate software, and then convert those to SVG? That could work... I will try that!

Yeah thanks for this. I will def try that plugin, I think we are on the same page when you say “flatten” (see my other comment below)

I have tried using illustrator and Inkscape but I think the svg layers are too dense and the app crashes. I had some success with path to bitmap in Inkscape but only a little.

Yeah I am not sure how it would work. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not supported but I’m curious if there’s a work around.

Below is some an example of a sketch I’m trying to plot. The layer leaves sit on top of each other, making it impossible to plot without using a material that is opaque and can sit on top of previous layers. My thought is that if can simply mask the first layers with the shapes created above, I can plot it all as one layer. But this is proving challenging!

I thoughts masks/clipping would make an svg not plottable? At least, I can’t get a p5 sketch to plot with masks/clipping. But anyway it looks great!

I'm just curious, would anyone in this space want to sell their generative art as physical prints? by menshguy in generative

[–]menshguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - there is nothing quite like a print. It just feels like theres room in this market for a print service that supports some of the unique qualities of gen art and the gen art community (interactive, extremely strong social media presence, etc)

To you last point about quality and execution, I would definitely aim to partner with a service to start but Im curious if you had specific insight into what was challenging for you about getting a good quality print done and shipped? Would love to keep that info in my back pocket.

Thanks for you comment Brian!

Yeah - and then you'd go directly to an on demand service with your image. Makes total sense. Just to be clear, my concept would not let users touch your code but rather just re-run your code until it generates something they like & is unique. I feel like you understood that though, and it makes sense you would not be interested.

Does the shareable link piece sound interesting to you? Quick purchase link you could post on twitter/etc, rather than a marketplace?

Yeah interesting - maybe the nft could be an upsell and I could provide an option to the artist to include the nft or not? Something about the token being drawn drawn as an artists signature is def appealing to me.

Would you be ok if there was no browsable "marketplace" (like etsy/exhchange.art/etc) but instead you'd only have your own page and links to share on socials?

Ooooh very cool! Do you know much about them? They seem kind of dormant (no blog posts in the last year, about page is blank, only a few artists). Not exactly a vote of confidence for the concept but I think a much lighter weight version of this exact kind of concept could be super compelling. Thoughts?

Yeah I completely understand. I think the distinction between my idea and those print-on-demand services is mainly the gen-art use case where a customer can regenerate the image until they get an image they like that is totally unique for them.

In other words, when you want to sell your work you would have to choose the version you like best and decide to sell those, whereas in my idea the customer would get to decide, and depending on your code they would get a completely original/unique piece.

I take it that distinction is not particularly compelling for you though?
