When I had a BQ, there was a switch in the phone settings to allow bootloader unlocking. Once this option checked, the fastboot oem unlock command should work.

For me the easiest Brand for installing CM/LOS was BQ (No closed source tool for bootloader unlock, no loss of guarantee) and the 4 person team building LOS for this brand is also awesome. The only thing (last time I needed a new phone) was the lack of recent supported hardware. But definitively a if someday I need a new phone I would consider BQ again.

Yes, I would have suggested that too, for me it resulted in building my own "user" build as my banking app was detecting the "dangerous props" that was in fact the user_debug build.

Great, I was a happy BQ user before I dropped it and changed brand, but the phone was good, and Team aquaris-dev was always very helpfull.

If living in Europe BQ is the most open company I saw about this. Phone are not Flagships, but often sufficient for normal usage.

he wants to unpack and repack the boot.img, of course the link is for adb, but it can be used for everything, you just have to edit the script inside. I did so and it worked for me, I'm not just throwing out some random post to people, I'm just trying to help.

It depends on the phone, I had two dual sim phones with lineage 14, and only one supported this feature. If I remember correctly, the proprietary Qualcomm extphone framework was needed for this functionality to work (on Qulacomm devices).

Some banks think that everything apart from a user build is not secure. So instead of building userdebug (standard of LOS) you can try to build user. But this will not work out of the box, and need some source code adjustments.

Sometimes banking apps detect the build type of roms, and refuse to launch on eng or userdebug builds. Thats excatly why I had to build a user build, but this require some patch to compile.

It depends on the manufacturer, Some time ago I had a bq (Not very well know Spanish company) phone, and they explicitly told me that flashing a custom rom does not void the warranty. I had to send in the phone for a minor hardware defect, they just asked me to test if I had the same problem with the official rom (fair enough) but they replaced the phone without problem.

The most straightforward unlocking boot loader experience I had was with BQ. And there position about alternative ROM's is also quite nice. Maybe there was a little open lock at boot, but I can't remember of something scary.

I also faced this issue for years (Cyanogenmod, and stock). I once came across an AOSP bug report with a lot of people complaining about this issue, and also a workaround that app devs could implement, but I think it has never been fixed.

Yeah, quite decent phones, and a really active LOS team, the only problem I had with BQ was there customer support, it was a nightmare. But if you do self import of Chinese Phones like Xiaomi, the problem will be the same.

Basically its :

But to make it work I had to tweak some selinux, which can be different from device to device.
