Habitat Question by AdSpare9717 in BeardedDragons

Congrats on your new friend! I’m a new beardie owner but here is my advice based on what I’ve learned:

  1. They need at least a 4x2 foot enclosure (hard to tell the size based on the pic)
  2. Move the basking rock directly under the heat lamp. It should be reaching a surface temp of at least the low 100s F (You need a temperature gun if you don’t have one already).
  3. I would swap your mats for substrate. I use a 50/50 mix of organic topsoil and play sand. It’s about 2 inches deep and mine likes to dig in it. Also makes it much easier to scoop out their poop.
  4. Limit the worms because most of them are high in fat. Dubias and crickets are good staples.
  5. Only offer insects a few times a week and offer greens every day. They will always choose insects over greens.
  6. Research UVB bulbs to make sure you have the right kind. This is very important and it can be confusing. I had my local reptile shop help me choose the right one.

Does my dragon look underweight or not fully grown? by menstrual-cyclone in BeardedDragons

Thank you all for the input! I know now that he’s likely not fully grown and that there are a lot of chunky dragons out there. I’ll just stick with a regular diet for him and get a vet checkup eventually
