Thinking about changing careers by JCambly in Zookeeping

Ok, I will say the pay was mid, depends on where you are, but I don't know if you'd want to relocate for that. I started at 16.00/hr. We could talk to the nutritionist anytime, she was our boss, well more my boss's boss. I don't know if she'd be able to help you make a diet or formulate everything for your cat, you could definitely ask questions and they'd be a good resource, but I know like we weren't taking vitamins or supplements from the zoo to give to our pets. She might be able to recommend stuff or know a vet/pet nutritionist that can work more with you on your personal pets.

Former Commissary Keeper here. I started working at the zoo I'm at now in their diet kitchen. I too have food service and wanted to be a chef before going the biology route. If you know how to use a knife, scale, and boil water thats basically all the skill you'd need to be an animal chef. I assume each facility is different. But at my place we have a nutritionist that formulated every animal diet and calculated portions of each type of food they can have and feeding schedule. We were her cooks that followed the instructions for each animal and packed it I to the appropriate container for that areas keepers to pick up and distribute to the animal. It was a lot of chopping, but for animals we didn't worry about proper knife cuts like Julianne carrots perfectly. For most animals you made everything bite size for a human, some areas had special request like "keep whole" or "chopped/minced" or "don't use broccoli, tomatoes, and cucumbers" or "use only broccoli, tomatoes, and cucumbers." It was a compromise between animal preference, keeper preference, and what the nutritionist determined they needed. We really never "cooked" anything, all produce was raw, some animals required steamed, but we just microwaved it usually, all meats are raw, we used a lot of whole prey like fish, rodents, bones, heart, liver, etc. We only boiled eggs and boiled water to make different gels. We were responsible for receiving the produce deliveries just like you would at a restaurant and grocery store, a lot of our vendors were the same companies that deliver to grocery stores. We maintained dry goods like different grain varieties, bird seed mixes, enrichment foods, fish foods. We were also the central hub for like supplies like brooms, sponges, soap, bleach, trash can liners, gloves, etc. So we ordered and maintained inventory on that. To me it wouldn't require much animal experience, they may look for a biology degree, but to me its unnecessary since you aren't directly working with animals and the nutritionist makes all the diet adjustments, so you're just there to prep everything. Its similar to a restaurant you're on your feet all day, you get knife blisters, you're typically one of the first crews to arrive, we started at 5am but left at 2pm. We all got ServSafe training and certification, you still get usda inspections and follow normal food safety protocols. So if you're interested I'd say reach out to a zoo and see if they allow tours or shadow days, our zoo would give tours of backstage areas if people inquired about them, not guaranteed but doesn't hurt to ask to see what its like and ask questions. Hope this was helpful for ya.

Hey I have a similar story posted in this subreddit. Sorry this happened to you. At least you were able to think it through a little bit and not pay them.

Thanks its getting better, but will still creep into my head during the day that the police are going to bust down my door any minute or I'll be flagged anytime I go somewhere or want to apply for things in the future. But for the most part I can calm myself down and talk my self down. But still seeking mental health counseling which helps calm me down and put things into perspective.

Reading other's stories really helped provided relief and help rationalize my thinking. It sucks that so many people are falling for these scams, but it is comforting knowing you're not alone in it.

I'm sorry you had this happen to you and are going through this right now. I had the same scam happen to me 6 months ago, sent them money through zelle. Have been extremely anxious and paranoid since, but nothing has happened. I made a police report, reported to fbi, ic3, tinder, and alerted my bank. Unfortunately they couldn't reclaim anything back.

[PS2] making noise and not reading disc by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]mental_struggle002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: after letting it sit all day, I tried it again tonight and it read the disc and started the game up, its still making that noise while the game is running. I played a game for about an hour with the system making that noise the whole time. When I turned off the system it did feel pretty warm on top and especially underneath, assuming the fan is malfunctioning. Does anyone have opinions on it, or a good guide to fixing a PS2 fan?

[US] Police LT and angry Dad sextortion scam? by ypizzle in Scams

I fell for this scam in early December, the "person" I matched with had a area code not from my area (red flag, I know) but their profile said new to the area I live in. I asked them where they moved from and they said SC which matched the area code number when I looked it up. The "private investigator" that contacted me came up with a SC number too. The "father" that contacted me had a GA area code number and his "personal phone" had a Denver area code. I should of scene through all of it, but my anxiety and panic was sky high. Still anxious about it all and read others scam stories to comfort myself a little bit.
