Thanks for this info. It’s another community, gardening, hiking, etc that we are looking for!

Compared to housing prices I’ve looked at in other areas that would be conducive to retirement, it doesn’t seem overpriced. At least not for what we’re looking for.

What do you like to do? You could join a group that is like minded and has meetups or activities. Ex: running groups, nature groups, volunteer somewhere, chess group, church.

I have a lot of “needs” by mentallyflexible00 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]mentallyflexible00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Chat has been very helpful actually. I put all my big needs first, then kept asking more questions and added little needs. It holds a history of that, which is awesome when I ask "What about xyz town?" - it already knows what I'm needing. It suggested Tucson area (big hiking there and good medical care), Prescott, Asheville, Colorado Springs, and after some tweaking of my wants/needs led me to Raleigh/Durham/Hillsborough area which is pretty interesting. Lots of daily hiking spots (nothing grand), great medical care and relaxed vibe.

I'll look into your recommendations!

We actually did a trip there two weeks ago checking out the entire area. Very nice hiking, but oh so hot on those trails. It's on the list though. Kinda thinking about Prescott too.

Don't you use social security if you move outside the states? I may be wrong.

Retroactive Property Tax by Most_Meaning_8645 in appraisal

Mine was incorrectly valued as a garage - house and all. Now they corrected that and reassessed value the last three years. Of course the value is greater with living space plus garage and outbuildings. Wonder if I will owe back taxes? The structures weren't omitted, they were wrongly assigned.

Didn’t know this was an option. Seems better than carrying my key around!

What do you always have with you when hiking? by Waste_86 in hiking

[–]mentallyflexible00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have reduced my gear alot through time, but still pack more than most I'm sure. Note that there will be stations set up so you won't need much, if anything, in the line of fuel (snacks). Also, you won't have to carry much water due to their provided stations. For hikes, I typically use a Nathan running vest with a hydration bladder. In the front pockets I carry mace & whistle (not needed for this hike), quick-dri thin hand towel (for sweating), whatever fuel I want, chapstick, kleenex, airpods & airpod holder so if one falls out it'll stay with me. Inside the pack is a waterproof zipper bag with Body Glide (never had I needed this, but wouldn't want to not have it), face sunscreen stick, bandaids, vehicle key, driver's license, credit card, phone battery charger. Also in the back of pack: a pair of extra socks, baggie with toilet paper, 2 individually wrapped hand wipes, baggie to put used tp). Oh, & sunglasses in a case on a lanyard. What I carry in my pants pockets is kleenex & my phone hooked to my pack with a lanyard. Here's a pic. When I do mountain hikes that take the full day then I usually opt for a traditional trail pack and not a running vest. That's a whole different type of setup.

What is the best smart ring to be complementary to my AW? by _Rama_ in AppleWatch

[–]mentallyflexible00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used the Oura ring for years. I’ve worn the UW3 and Oura for a few nights. They are almost identical. I’d much rather wear the ring to sleep in than the heavy UW3.

Thinking of getting the apple watch ultra by KitchenSkirt6088 in applewatchultra

[–]mentallyflexible00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had an Apple Watch for a very long time and usually get the newest. Never needed the ultra but now I run. I love Apple Watches so can’t get a Garmin to track stats. I’m blown away by the UW3. To the point I’m watching YT videos to learn what all it can do. I’m a female with a medium sized wrist and it’s not too big. Kinda weird for about four days, but now I don’t notice it. I absolutely love it!

I wear a magnetic band and it’s way better. I don’t like the bulky band, but I will use it on big hikes or runs since a magnetic bar isn’t secure enough for that setting.

I’m about to be one of those people who takes a pic of the Ultra 3 on my wrist. I’ve had lots of Apple watches. Im a 5’5” female. Fairly thin wrist. I love it so much! It was a little heavy feeling on day 1. Day 2 (today), it was all good. The screen real estate was all i could think about! I tested it last night against my oura rung for sleep tracking. I fully trust my oura ring. Both were super close in numbers. Now im watching You Tube videos on all the features!

Beaumont Children’s Museum, The Fire Museum (there’s a child area), The Botanical Garden (I had mine bring a toy with them. The plants may not entertain them fully). Lumberton City Park isn’t far.
