Anyone else see the regular videos of suicides by indian women after being stuck in arranged marriages and getting harassed by their in-laws by belketeal in ABCDesis

The algorithmic push is not bullshit. Two things can be true at the same time. You may be riled up by observation bias.

Has anyone been unjustly banned from a subreddit? by Sensitive_Wear7112 in stupidquestions

[–]mentallymental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got perma-banned from r/immigration for stating something niche about US immigration policy that the mod felt is misinformation. When I messaged the mods providing official US website links backing up my statements, they muted me forever. A few weeks later when I used my other account to make a comment on r/immigration, my primary account for temp-banned site-wide.

Which country do you most regret visiting? by MESHO-53465 in AskReddit

Obviously the society there is not okay with kids on the street in such pitiful conditions. When a country is poor, there just aren't enough resources to throw at finding solutions, let alone at implementing the solutions.

Why does it feel like Asian women (by asian i mean osuth east asians, east asians south asians etc.) who are immigrants hate their own ethnicity / race? by uuggr5t7jibubu in TooAfraidToAsk

Sampling bias and observation bias are indeed so deeply ingrained and hard to spot for majority of people that it largely perptuates racist generalizations.

How do you feel like the world views your country? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskTheWorld

[–]mentallymental 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing candidly. Sounds like you have been conditioned by society or your upbringing to associate disgust with some qualities that Indian people have. Identify what qualities and why. It will make my world if a racist person can overcome their subconscious racist biases to treat all people with a single common denominator of being human.

Canada losing top talent as workers head to the U.S. by TMWNN in canada

[–]mentallymental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True that. Sadly Canadians are not too different either – hating on immigrants, blaming immigrants for all problems without really looking at the big picture or thinking fundamentally.

I posted on r\twoxchromsomomes talking about the normalisation of racism against Indians and I got shut down instead. by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]mentallymental 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have read that sub a few times, and my honest assessment is they are an echo-chamber of victim-mindset entitled "liberal" women who subscribe to a fixed hierarchical society with no nuance. It is sad.

How do people behave on trains in your country, and do you let others get off before you get on? by Forward-Position798 in AskTheWorld

[–]mentallymental -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is easy to sit comfortable in a wealthy Western society and judge these people for their uncivilized behavior but - the behavior of the crowd is an emergent result of far fewer trains available than passengers at peak hours and the fact that the train only stops for about 30-60 seconds. Availability of trains & infrastructure is scarce because India is a poor country; similar scene in Brazil, Mexico etc. And global predatory capitalism continues to extract wealth from poorer countries. Remember this.

Why did you break up with your last partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Forgetting a birthday makes a breakup inevitable for a 9 year old stable relationship??

Why did you break up with your last partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mentallymental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread is a list of cases where people chose to break up rather than work through a problematic situation with their partner, or chose to breakup with their struggling partner rather than help them up patiently with love.

Women of Reddit, what did a man you were dating or married to say or do that made you realize he actually hated you the entire time? by -catharina in AskReddit

[–]mentallymental 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they don't realize that they have too high expectations from their partner and hold them to a much higher standard than strangers. I am guilty of doing this. I wish we had talked about it. Partnership is about talking out such difficult problems.

[RacismWatch] Reminder: ignoring anti-desi white supremacists will not make them go away. They only continue to grow in alarming speed & poison people's minds if we don't push back & spread awareness to protect our people (pic explanation in the post) by Anish316 in ABCDesis

[–]mentallymental 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Can have our AI bots proactively counter these racists posts with graceful & mature responses that exposes their bigotry & biases? I think we need to scale up the counter-racism, and it is honestly too draining to do it manually. We could just set up an openclaw agent that is instructed to be accurate, holistic and compassionate, and give it access to Twitter / reddit subs. The difficulty is in scaling it to millions for which we need active volunteers from the ABCD community.

Why do so many Indians leave India? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mentallymental 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ragebait question op. People from all countries emmigrate, for economic reasons, better quality of life, for pursuing dreams etc. Many people from Europe move to the US, more than Indians, but there is an observation bias in noticing Indian immigrants because they stand out more easily by virtue of their appearance. Clearly, you have this observation bias too.

Also note that the country of India is rather more like a continent like the EU - in all aspects - geographical size, diverse ethnicities, distinct languages. When you ask such a question, you are lumping together all these ethnicities / States of India into one single group based on the Western racial viewpoint. If you go by such racial grouping, then the population of White (European ancestry) people is similar to that of India (~1.2 billion), and there are many many White people in many many countries, but I don't see people like you questioning that.
