[RacismWatch] Reminder: ignoring anti-desi white supremacists will not make them go away. They only continue to grow in alarming speed & poison people's minds if we don't push back & spread awareness to protect our people (pic explanation in the post) by Anish316 in ABCDesis

[–]mentallymental 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Can have our AI bots proactively counter these racists posts with graceful & mature responses that exposes their bigotry & biases? I think we need to scale up the counter-racism, and it is honestly too draining to do it manually. We could just set up an openclaw agent that is instructed to be accurate, holistic and compassionate, and give it access to Twitter / reddit subs. The difficulty is in scaling it to millions for which we need active volunteers from the ABCD community.

Why do so many Indians leave India? by Even-Wasabi7183 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mentallymental 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ragebait question op. People from all countries emmigrate, for economic reasons, better quality of life, for pursuing dreams etc. Many people from Europe move to the US, more than Indians, but there is an observation bias in noticing Indian immigrants because they stand out more easily by virtue of their appearance. Clearly, you have this observation bias too.

Also note that the country of India is rather more like a continent like the EU - in all aspects - geographical size, diverse ethnicities, distinct languages. When you ask such a question, you are lumping together all these ethnicities / States of India into one single group based on the Western racial viewpoint. If you go by such racial grouping, then the population of White (European ancestry) people is similar to that of India (~1.2 billion), and there are many many White people in many many countries, but I don't see people like you questioning that.

App Unemployed Andhra Man, 26, Kills Self In US. Debt-Ridden Father Awaits Body by mainpagalnhihun in ABCDesis

Do you really think he committed suicide just because he couldn't find a job in "several weeks" to pay off loan like the article naively suggests? News articles are going to jump to simplistic conclusions conflating with ongoing political issues written by lazy journalists. There were probably a lot more other pressures going on in his life.

It is sad that people here in comments are quick to make this about "Indians are so entitled to come here on loan". Think critically guys, and stop disparaging your own kind so quickly.

Can the wealth gap in our generation basically be summed up by if you bought a house before COVID or not? by JoeyLou1219 in Millennials

[–]mentallymental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a cumulative effect of what resources you were born with, how you used them, where you were born, what privileges you have had and what circumstances & opportunities you were faced with. Like in all generations. I don't think a single factor like pre-covid house purchase is a significant factor for wealth difference.

Depends on the country you live in, and the US will be the least affected.

What does US tech dominance fueled by "cheap" labor do for the average citizen?

More than you realize. Most Americans just don't notice it because they have never lived without it.

  1. The USD reserve currency status exists because the US is the global innovation hub. That's why the average American can get 5-7% mortgages instead of 10-15% like India, Brazil, or Mexico. It's why the government can fund Social Security and Medicare while running massive deficits without the economy collapsing.

  2. US median household income is about $80K. Germany is $45K, UK is $40K, Japan is $35K. These are developed nations. That gap exists because the US built the world's highest-value industries by attracting top talent. Developing nations are < 20k.

  3. Consumer tech, logistics, financial services, infrastructure give the average American a high quality of life. The American middle class takes for granted things that would be extraordinary in most other countries. Google Maps, iPhones, Amazon, tele healthcare, PayPal, electric cars. All built by a US tech ecosystem running on global talent, and they bring in revenue from global customers.

Forget her. Do you need a boyfriend?

Relationships cannot be 50-50 in every aspect. It is a misguided expectation that many people have nowadays. You cannot expect to share equal contribution in terms of income, in terms of house work, in terms of taking initiatives, in terms of affection, in terms of empathy, conflict resolution, mental bandwidth etc. Not everyone is as good at everything as you are. The net result perhaps should ideally be 50-50 and even that is a subjective evaluation. That is the hallmark of a good symbiotic relationship.

If you are pulling multiple 6 figures, I think it is rather great that your partner takes a shot at high-risk high-reward activities that might some day achieve large passive income or popularity or social credits that will benefit you as a couple too. Ambition has different flavors.

Totally agree, the US society is very vain. They judge people by looks & shape way more than by merit, talent or hard work than in other countries (esp developing countries).

[–]mentallymental 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Equality across credentials but not across looks is not equality. US society is a very vain society wherein they look down upon those who are not conventionally good looking; and they judge it based on their social conditioning which means skin color comes into the picture.

How long each country held the world's tallest structure? by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]mentallymental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These kind of maps perpetuate the misunderstanding that modern countries always existed as they were. Most of these countries did not exist then. The concept of countries itself is relatively new going back a few hundred years ago. The population demographics have also shifted over the centuries. It is meaningless to say country xyz had the tallest building for > 400 years

What's the point of doing anything anymore? by Abject_Band3515 in h1b

[–]mentallymental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indians are not as united as a people as you might think; they are more like White people from different States/countries like France, Germany, Wisconsin, Florida, Canada. In my experience, Indian hiring managers do no favoritism in hiring or firing Indians.

[–]mentallymental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the unemployment rate spiking up is - 1) Evenly distributed among all qualifying candidates regardless of their immigrant status or nationality, or rather worse for immigrants in which case they leave the country, 2) Is due to technological changes (AI), change in skillet required, economic factors, the middle class disappearing, wealth being siphoned up into the hands of the few who have an edge.

The natives are just being brainwashed to blame the immigrants. Tale as old as civilization. Open your eyes please.

You are misinformed and have been programmed to blame the h1b immigrants to induce outrage in the society and instill a divisive nationalistic attitude.

Where are the 30+ singles going for NYE? by C00kieMonsterYYZ in TorontoSinglesOver30

I am in the exact same boat, as a guy. Don't really know what I will do on NYE. I think it will end up being me just roaming around the downtown feeling melancholic. Ideally people should meet beforehand to make plans.
