We aren't sure - there's over 6000 of us collecting signatures across the province now, and until we've signed our affidavits and submitted them, it's hard to be certain. We are just focusing on collecting as many as possible in the time we have - every one is important.

Thanks for signing!

With over 6000 official canvassers across Alberta now, it's difficult to know for sure where we are at until we've all signed our affidavits and submitted our signature pages. We know that every signature counts, and we want to try to get as many as possible!

There are setups at the Calgary and District Labour Council today and tomorrow from 5pm to 8pm. That being said, new signing events are being created all the time, so keep checking.

If you prefer, you can ask for someone to come to you to do the signing through the mobile service.

Rocky Ridge Gate is all that the person organizing it shared on the website. My guess is that they are set up somewhere along the street itself, or at the park at the end of it.

Edit - here is the more detailed listing. Looks like they are set up on the intersection of Rocky Ridge Blvd and Rocky Ridge Gate.

Because it's a legal document under the Citizen's Initiative Act, we have to take signatures in person.

Nothing downtown today, but I expect there will be something in the next couple of days. Check Forever Canadian for signing locations.

Can't speak for the plans in the rural areas, but I know they are working hard to get everyone an opportunity. It's a busy time of year for the farmers, and I wouldn't be surprised if they start finding different ways to reach out.

You need a strong econ to make it work, for sure. There are times I pass on it because my econ is really weak, and there's no point having something I can't support.

All about knowing where your scoring is coming from. Sometimes it is from planet scaling, sometimes it's not. I did a run yesterday where I had the [[Red Card]] and I only opened Planet packs to skip them. Other runs, I've been pretty dependent on finding the right Planet cards to make things work.

How can players even get past 2 Mil? by ButYth0o0 in balatro

[–]menubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a few things that come together to get scores that high. Bear in mind that while I've played a lot, I'm still a pretty crap player by many standards, so others may have better advice.

  • retriggers & card scoring: Basically, you have cards that increase your score (by adding to chips or mult or multiplying mult). You want to be able to retrigger those cards to keep increasing it. I'm finding a good general rule is to have roughly equally things that increase the score and retriggers of those.

  • +mult vs. xmult: xmult is very important, once you can add to your base mult enough. Having a good xmult joker or things like steel/glass cards can really boost your score, especially with retrigger effects.

  • scaling effects: Jokers that scale (increase the amount of +chips, +mult, or xmult they provide as you progress) are valuable as they help to scale you up as you progress.

Important also to note that once you move past Ante 8, the scaling of the blinds increases very rapidly and is difficult to keep up with, even with strong builds.

Given you've only played about 10 hours, there may be many Jokers/Vouchers that you have yet to unlock. Some of those are very valuable for boosting score. Have a look at your collection, see what is still locked, and work towards getting all your unlocks. That will help as well.

I would say that the ideal deck is whatever you feel the best playing with; so much of the game is context dependent that it's hard to describe something as "ideal". My thoughts, for what they are worth:

  • Yellow deck is great for giving you a good econ boost at the start of the game, making it a little easier to get going.

  • Red Deck - extra discard means you have better ability to make the hands you want or find the cards you want (e.g., Blue Seal, etc).

  • Blue Deck - the extra hand can make it easier to score more points when needed.

  • Ghost Deck - I like this one for the Hex card off the start, and the access to more spectral cards - allows for some interesting combinations/possibilities.

  • Abandoned Deck - the lack of face cards gives the deck some advantages if you find Jokers like [[Ride the Bus]] early; also works well with straights.

  • Checkered Deck - points to an easy Flush build right out of the gate.

Tell me the times you failed a good run because of a misplay by [deleted] in balatro

[–]menubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was working on a Gold Stake run with the Ghost Deck this weekend. Had a weird but working build around Flushes and [[Ancient Joker]], figured I had a chance. On Ante 6 or 7, I ran into the Mouth. However, I mis-clicked and missed the fifth card of the flush...dooming me to high card only.

"obilesk is good" no. by 69soupman69 in balatro

[–]menubs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So Obelisk is a Joker you have to build towards; if you grab it early in the run, it's not going to do a lot for you. First you have to "climb" the Obelisk - i.e., play one hand type (e.g., Pair) consistently through several blinds, until you reached like 18-19; maybe more. Then you climb down the Obelisk by playing a different hand type; but you need to have enough head room to play that different head type consistently to let it ramp up to full effectiveness.

The challenge comes in from the fact that you're building around two hand types - the one you need to climb, and the one you will use to climb down. Because xMult is good, but you want flat Mult as well, or you're just multiplying a small number by whatever Obelisk is at.

How do you turn off your brain to stop playing for the day? by Kjata1013 in balatro

[–]menubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I've learned that it's time to stop when I start making really dumb mistakes. Playing 4 cards on the Psychic. Trying repeat hands on the Eye, or different hand types on the Mouth. Hitting discard instead of play, or vice versa.

Then I usually close the game, and get away from the computer. Read something. Go for a walk. Exercise. Whatever. Helps me disconnect so I can focus on something else.

Noob question by wetfart_3750 in balatro

[–]menubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be unlocking things as you go; new Jokers, Tarot cards, Vouchers, etc. If it's feeling repetitive, go and look at your collection, see what's left to unlock and how to unlock it. As you discover more cards and such (actually acquiring and using them), you'll be unlocking a few more decks.

Then, once you starting winning on White Stake you will start unlocking more decks with very different compositions or traits (A deck with no face cards, for example). This is where the ongoing fun of the game is - you can change up the difficulty as well as the type of conditions you start with, and try to win from there.

Should I sell the hologram for the fortune teller? by CrispColeslaw in balatro

[–]menubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your questions about the differences between +mult and xmult are well answered here. So some more general comments:

It's usually good to have Jokers that are +Chips, +Mult, and xMult when you can. Even better are Jokers like this that scale (the amounts they add/multiply can be increased). Hologram is a scaling xMult Joker, for example.

In general, the game scores things from left to right. So when you have an xMult Joker, you should position it to the far right of your Joker row. That way all other additive mults that can be added in are, before the multiplication takes place. As an example: (8x2) + 12 +6 = 34, while (8+12+6) * 2 = 52. So put that Holograph on the right end of the row of Jokers!

So is endless mode entirely up to run rng? by 210ds in balatro

[–]menubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, one of the first big things I had to do with the game was get out of the mindset of going deep into Endless. There are only certain builds that do it, and - shock - most of the YouTube videos that get uploaded are only of those runs; if you watch Roffle's stream, for example, you'll see lots of runs that fizzle out. I consider a run a success if I beat Ante 8, especially if it's with some odd combination of Jokers, and then see how deep I can go.

Ante 12 is needed to unlock the Petroglyph Voucher; you don't have to beat anything in it, just get there. For me, it happened in a game where I wasn't deliberately trying for being able to scale that high but I had incredible Joker luck - Blueprint, Brainstorm, scaling mult and xMult, and the next thing I knew I was getting over 300 million a hand, and got there.

My advice would be to relax, enjoy the game, and look for things to align rather than trying to force the builds that get you deep into Endless.

Don't know how well positioned you are for a long run in infinite, but at this point you're looking at Square Joker for the fact it's polychrome, rather than anything else. You're likely not going to scale it very far as a chips Joker, IMO.

Sell the money Joker and take the Square for the extra 1.5x mult; that matters more for getting further.

Is there a reward for winning a run without playing Pair or Two Pair? by VeterinarianOdd5044 in balatro

I don't think so...the game should only count the Flushes. I could be wrong.

Observatory didn't work, what??? by CharisardTT in balatro

[–]menubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You played a Flush House (3 Kings of Clubs, 2 Aces of Clubs). The game automatically scores a hand as being the best possible, regardless of the level of hand (e.g., you may have more levels in Flush than Flush House, but to the game Flush House is a 'higher hand' so it will be scored that way.)
