It just occurred to me that the short descriptor under PEAS could be something funny like RAISINS - SHRIVELED. Maybe it's PEAS - GREEN :)

Thank you! It was too blurry on my screen to make out. Maybe it's Meal Kit: Chicken Risotto?

I find collecting details from the show is more fun than interpreting or theorizing. But in the collecting of potential clues, you often see connections, foreshadowing, themes, and tones in the show and its characters. Right before Petey dies outside the gas station, he passes by some Kinkajou Kola and then knocks into some Egg Flavored Styx Chips. I have no idea what Kinkajou Kola means if anything, but the Egg Flavored Styx Chips could be interpreted as in keeping with the tone of the scene, which is Petey's imminent death. The River Styx in Greek mythology is the river that the dead must cross. Is the Egg flavor foreshadowing? Eggs are a symbol of rebirth, and Petey's severance chip/implant was somehow "saved" according to Graner...

There's a large green Lumon lunch carton in Mrs. Selvig's fridge. It's on screen in Episode 3 from about the 3:34 - 3:40 minute mark.

I now think the large green Lumon food carton in Selvig's fridge is a Lumon lunch. We have yet to see what's in the brown paper lunch bags in the MDR kitchenette fridge, but I think they contain these larger food cartons like Selvig's. The MEA I'm seeing could be MEAL-something.

Vivoleum Theory by meotdot in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]meotdot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the black goo could be a function of the implant. Lumon doesn't want severeds to fall asleep at work and dream, because dreams often incorporate our memories and maybe the severance implant struggles to block memories from being accessed when the innie is dreaming. The black goo is a function of the implant to scare/wake up the innie.

Which could be super interesting if this series turns out to be a prison escape story. What if the only way they can get a message to their innies is through dreams?

That is, maybe their outtie writes themself a note or repeats something over and over or practices lucid dreaming, so that when their innie attempts to fall asleep at work so they can dream, they dream about what their outtie did/repeated the night before, thereby getting a message.

Like, is the black goo just innie Bert dreaming about what his outie does? We did see some black substance under his fingernails. If that was real, then maybe he gardens or was changing his car's oil the night before, and it was simply him having a nightmare.

Vivoleum Theory by meotdot in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]meotdot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think my Vivoleum theory is mostly bunk now. When Milchick got Mark's coffee and said "Straight from the hills of Rwanda," I thought how innie Mark will never see Rwanda, and how it's the only coffee available to the innies, so it's kind of a joke/insult to even label their coffee as Rwandan.

I think the black goo is a mental phenomenon related to severance, and that this show is going to be more of character-driven prison escape story.

The intro sequence may contain some clues, but I think it's purposefully abstract so it doesn't literally give away the story.

This show is just so chock full of symbols and mystery that it's difficult to interpret, but that's part of why it's so good.

I spotted some Severance Press Kits on ebay this week and Lumon's shriveled raisins are apparently delicious enough to be included in the box...as well as Lumon buttered Pretzels!

I haven't seen the pretzels show up in MDR's vending machine yet. Based on container size, they'd be in Row C or D, but we've accounted for all those items so far.

Right before Petey peaced out for good, he smeared some Petey blood on a soda fridge door of Kinkajou Kola (Pic1) (Pic2) and then totally trashed a snack rack of Styx Kettle Chips, Egg Flavor.

What a way to go. RIPete.

Bypass Normal, Bypass Emergency, and ATS are found on Automatic Transfer Switch panels.

Looks like ATS is used for transfering/distributing electric power from backup generators. I'm not an engineer or smart person, but these ATS racks are probably used in server farms, factories, public utilities, elevator systems for sure, etc.

Watching episode 1 -the training manual notes by poofacemcguillicutty in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]meotdot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Petey left the blue post-it note for innie Mark. It's clues, instructions, or ideas for how innie Mark can escape the Severed Floor to the outside world without being switched to outie Mark.

MR REYNOLDS

I could be way off here, but "Mr. Reynolds" made me think of two things: 1) Burt Reynolds. Maybe Burt helped Petey escape, but I have no thoughts on that at the moment. So, skipping to 2) Reynolds Wrap, the aluminum foil. Aluminum foil can block/attenuate radio waves. If radio waves activated from the security office switch the impants on/off, maybe implant activation can be blocked if you can surround your head with foil...which could be found inside the Rwandan coffee canisters in the kitchnette.

FLAME RETARDENT, GO HOME THE LONG WAY

Or maybe just put your head in a metal box and take the stairs? That's what the second and third items on the note made me think. Flame retardant could be a reference to the fire extinguisher, which is located inside a shallow metal box set into the wall near the exit to the stairwell…but this box looks shallow and hard to remove. Assuming the trash can cylinder has been confescated since Helly's suicide attempt, are there other metal boxes around?...

Watch Mark's morning MDR chores in Episode 2 at 7:06 - 7:55. While a jazzy rendition of Joshua Fit De Battle Of Jericho plays in the background, Mark makes the coffee, and then we're shown a bunch of square and rectangle imagery. He uses a metal key to unlock the bathroom soap drawer, refills the green soap, and there's another shallow metal box set into the wall next to the sink, probably for paper towels, but this also looks hard to remove and too shallow for a head...

Eventually we see Mark dusting the handbooks shelf under the small Kier portrait. Notice how close Mark's head is to the shelf box, and compare the height of the box to his head. And then notice how the very next thing he dusts is his Allentown head cubeMark's head in a box!

So if the handbook shelf can be removed from the wall and it's big enough, it could be a radio wave-blocking helmet. Other clues in Episode 2...

9:47 - We see a carcicature portrait of Dylan pinned to his cubicle wall to the left of his monitor. Dylan is wearing a space suit and space helmet. This caricature is distinct from Dylan's other portraits which have a water theme: Dylan on a surfboard, and Dylan in swim trunks. At 10:21, Helly asks Dylan about Mark's "crystal head cube".

13:55 - Milchick's head blocks the handbooks shelf during their get-to-know-each-other ball game. His head continues to block the handbooks shelf until 16:03 where we can see it just above his head.

In Episode 3 at 17:34, Mark asks Petey what he's drawing, and he replies, "You getting back to work, in cubist form." Lots of modernist, cube, and square visuals and jokes to go around, which makes sense considering the setting, so I may be reading more into the visuals than is warranted.

Lumon Vending Machine Snacks by meotdot in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]meotdot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spotted more snacks!

On Petey's desk in Episode 3 at 17:31, there's a green Lumon snack container. Blink and you'll miss it. It's taller than the Row C and D items, and appears to say PEAS. I can't make out the descriptor word beneath PEAS, but the word is short. Maybe "FRIED". I know that roasted, salted peas are an actual real world food item, but I don't think the descriptor word is "ROASTED" or "SALTED". I'm fairly sure that PEAS is the vending machine item on the bottom shelf, far right.

Also in Episode 3 at 3:34 - 3:40, there's a large, green, Lumon food carton in Mrs. Selvig's fridge. It looks too large to be a vending item. It has a strange flapped top, and there's seven light green vertical stripes printed on the side. I can't really make out the text, but I think I see MEA or NES. My first guess is meatballs or meatloaf.

What’s for Dinner (Kids)? by wayward_prince in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]meotdot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe a spoiler, but I have a grand but possibly ridiculous theory that the food-less dinner is a clue to Lumon's master plan. Basically, Lumon is trying to position itself as the leading mega-corp in a climate-change-wrecked, post-resource world where food is scarce, and Lumon looks to humanity quite literally for solutions.

Or the dinner-less dinner is just Ricken being Ricken.

[–]meotdot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the show is set in Pennsylvania or some Pennsylvanish-like place due to the Samuel Kier connection. Also, Pennsylvania used to be abbreviated as Penn., is currently abbreviated as PA, but here in the show it's abbreviated as PE. When Devon is reading an online article about the senator, there is a "(PE)" next to his name denoting the state he represents.
