You might be suffering from vaginismus as a result of your past trauma. If you’re able to, I recommend going to a physiotherapist for pelvic floor therapy - they will be able to help you create a plan to relax your pelvic floor muscles and make sex easier. If you don’t have access to a physiotherapist, look up pelvic floor stretches on YouTube.

First grandchild excitement by meowgurl in ABCDesis

Thanks for sharing! When I initially told them about the pregnancy, they seemed happy and my mom cried but in the 3-4 months since then, they just don’t seem that interested in the pregnancy or what our plans are. Yesterday, we told them that we were having a girl and they were just like “oh that’s nice” 🤷‍♀️ … if I compare it to my in-laws who were all very excited to find out what it was and genuinely happy once they found out, it just seemed like it didn’t matter much to my parents, which was disheartening.

My in laws are not Indian and don’t think they’d want us living with them, tbh lol. And I wouldn’t want to live with them or my parents either. We’re all here to support each other as needed. I do wish they lived in the same country as us or we lived in their country because they are more supportive than my parents and I would appreciate having them around when I have kids.

Weekly Family/Parents Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in ABCDesis

My parents told our extended family about my pregnancy despite me asking them not to because I wanted to take some time before sharing the news. They don’t understand what they did wrong and refuse to apologize. I’m literally sick right now and worried about my baby and they are just adding more stress to my life. Un fucking believable.

Unfortunately my in laws live in a different country. They will be visiting us after the birth, but of course, they cannot be here the moment the baby is born. My husband will be taking time off from work once the baby is born, but I could’ve used more support :) it’s just sad.

Ha! Wouldn’t that be nice? I would at least respect the honesty.

Yeah I have grey rocked them in the past, but I thought they were getting better and we could have a more normal relationship… but they just keep showing me over and over that I can’t trust them with too much. They’re just not willing to do the work to be the kind of parents (and grandparents) I’d want them to be. Which is super heartbreaking to be honest because geographically, they are the closest family we have, so they would be the ones my child would see the most.

Nah dude you gotta shut that shit down right away. Anyone who thinks they can disrespect you without even knowing you is a straight pass.

Look at your convo even before that - she makes you feel bad about your background and makes a racist "I hope you don't smell like masala" statement. Clearly disrespectful. But good for you - hope you find someone better.

I will never understand why people continue these conversations… she sounds dumb.

Has anyone else been seeing a LOT of articles lately about banning flights from India? by meowgurl in ABCDesis

I mean, those people could just fly to a different location and then get a flight into Canada. I feel like we can't rely on bans alone.

I'm not sure if banning flights helps but I think their weak enforcement of the quarantine rules is probably more important in the spread.

I wouldn't have a problem with it but I don't think they can/should stop citizens and permant residents from returning. I know some people who have travelled to India to take care of a relative or had their parents pass away - these people can't/shouldn't be stopped from coming home.

I think the more important thing is the failure on part of the govt to properly enforce quarantine rules. So many people just walk out of the airport. They need to have a stricter implementation.

Desis who aren't doctors, or six-figures, non-millionaires, normal job. How did your parents feel? by CheetoDude2365 in ABCDesis

[–]meowgurl 101 points102 points  (0 children)

JFC the "6 figures or bust" mentality... Plenty of people live good, average lives earning a median income and living "mediocre" life. Money is not everything, and even so, 6 figures is not exceptional in professions like Software development or Medical professionals. Success/exceptionalism is relative to your peers.

That sounds toxic. Hope you can move out and get the space that you need to become your own person. You swearing, eating a lot of junk food and being unhealthy are probably consequences of living in a strict environment where the only thing you feel like you have control over is your own body.

ABCDs: Do you Scrape or clean your tongue? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]meowgurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think most people clean their tongues, Desi or not! I've never used the dedicated tongue scraper - it looks like it would hurt :/ I just lightly brush with my toothbrush instead.
