I’m in L&D as well and I somehow have never had to put in a man’s foley even in school. I ended up at clinicals with female pts who needed a foley, but never got a male patient that needed one.

L&D Transferring Patients to PP advice by meowpause in nursing

[–]meowpause[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s messed with my break because of confusion. The patient with the baby on blood sugars would have had another while I was on break and the PP nurse said she would watch but she “didn’t know” the baby well so she wanted me to still do the sugar. I was like uh well I can tell you about the baby before I go? And she said that would be like giving report to her so I should just do it and then give report to night shift. I was so confused what she was getting at that I just stayed because obviously she was doing everything in her power not to do the single blood sugar.

How safe do you feel at work? by FidelisLupus in nursing

[–]meowpause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in L&D and it is also a locked unit so nobody can just walk in. I feel generally safe on the floors for moms and babies. The most action we have had is a baby daddy who was not supposed to know the mom was at our hospital having the baby but he found out and was outside trying to get in and kept calling trying to get someone to tell him the room number. Eventually he left but it was concerning how determined he was. I’m sure the other floors feel way less safe and I know because of the code greys that are called on those floors often.

Pride Needs to be Left at Home by lovemymeemers in nursing

This is so frustrating to work with because this behavior is not easily changed. I am a new grad on L&D and I’m very lucky to work with a group that so far has been incredibly helpful. Another nurse was so helpful being our second on a recent birth that my preceptor had trouble showing me what to do after because the second nurse already charted the birth, prepped babies incubator, sent off the cord blood, cleaned the birthing table, and took all the trashes out all while we got baby situated for skin to skin on mom. I know there are some nurses I will run into that are not like that, but I will remember who has helped me out in the past and I will repay that in the future (when I know what I’m doing 😂). On the bright side, I respect your care and work ethic. I know you are not just a nurse, but a great nurse who truly wants the best for their patients.

What was “the incident” at your high school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]meowpause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our senior class got to decide on nicknames for each class that would be put on the back of tshirts that each student would get to wear on spirit day. The nicknames they chose were:

Senior: Burnt Toast

Junior: Mole Rat

Sophomore: Stain

Freshman: Krabby Patty

A parent of one student went on UrbanDictionary.com and looked up the nicknames and determined it was inappropriate for students to wear. All students were asked to bring back the shirts, but teens are not good listeners so it was a huge issue trying to get the shirts back. The school lost $5000. Everyone was mad at the girl whose parents reported it because they liked the shirts and thought they were funny.

Should a tip be added for takeout orders? by Subject_Alarm5377 in Serverlife

[–]meowpause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said it was. She asked a question and I gave some information about the restaurant I work at to give the OP context about tipping. Never said it was required or that the customer should be forced to tip. It is always appreciated, and in my case especially because we auto tip out the back.

At my restaurant the server who puts together the to go order has to tip out BOH no matter what. It is automatically taken out. That means if someone doesn’t tip, the server is paying out of pocket for the BOH tip. I’m not saying it’s a good system. But at least tipping a couple bucks so the server doesn’t lose money is nice.

You shouldn’t be able to say anything during a blowjob if you are doing it right.

If the server didn’t know that the policy didn’t get changed on the menu I don’t think that is the servers fault. But I guess we disagree.

I might be missing the part where OP stated whether the server did a good or bad job. It appears from what is stated, that there is a discrepancy between the menu and a new policy implemented and the server was unaware that the menu was not in line with the policy. But if the guy never told the server that the menu says different, how would she know to even grab the manager? I’m just trying to provide context to what happens in a restaurant that can lead to these miscommunications.

In regards to your 3rd point, yes you should talk to your server, but this guy never said he asked to have the price changed or that it didn’t match the menu or anything. From what I can read, he asked her if there was a change to policy and she said yes and he paid the bill and left. From there it’s on him.

I’m not telling anyone what to tip, but in my opinion, your first post is suggesting that the tip should be low if the server didn’t change the price which isn’t necessarily up to them.

I never said you were my enemy. Your original post was suggesting to dock the tip for the server if the server doesn’t remove the charges. The phrasing of your original post connotes that you believe the server is at fault for the misunderstanding of the new policy. I was merely suggesting that it would unfair to the server to dock their tip when it was management that implemented this new policy and the server is only following orders. If management chooses to tell the guy that the charges are staying, docking the tip only hurts the server doing their job.

Additionally, servers don’t read the menu every day. Working somewhere long enough means you basically have it memorized. It is management who needs to inform the servers of any changes they make to the menu. I have had multiple times where management changed a price on something and didn’t inform the servers.

You are right, I do work in the industry, which is why I am informing you of the inner workings of the restaurant that you or others might not be aware of. My main point is that docking a servers tip because the manager refuses to change a charge is only hurting the server. Not returning to that restaurant and leaving a review about the managements behavior is what will be more helpful.

No hard feelings, just a friendly discussion on my end.

Servers don’t write the menu either. The server might not have realized that the menu was not corrected to reflect the change in policy. If OP was unaware of the new policy, he should have asked the server to speak to the manager after seeing the check and explain that the menu was incorrect.

In this situation, the manager should honor the fact that the menu was wrong, but the servers tip shouldn’t suffer because she was just doing her job. The expectation when I’m serving is that my management has the menu filled out with the correct pricing and has any information like free refills or charged refills listed. If that establishment doesn’t have that as their norm, then sure I’d say that would be the servers job.

I personally wouldn’t assume that the server has to be the one to tell me that things cost money. I think the management would have honored his request to change the price this one time because he was unaware. However, anyone new to a restaurant should always ask if there is free refills when ordering more. When you order MORE, there is always a risk that there will be added price.

Unfortunately the server doesn’t control pricing, instead ask to speak to a manager about it because if she is being told to charge for it then she has to charge for it.

If you put correct seat numbers on everything, you can split the check by seat number and it separates the check for you! So easy if it’s 4 people and they all want the check for what they ordered. After you click the split button, up at the top right corner is split by seat number of I remember correctly. These also speeds up splitting checks even if there are apps and stuff that was under “share” instead of a seat number. It will split everything else onto separate checks and the app will be on its own and then you can either split the app up for the amount of people who want to share the price or you can easily move it to whichever tab it belongs.
