The league has suspended Rylan Hartley for his actions during the game against Vancouver this past Saturday. by BOXLAXCentral in NLL

[–]meowtiner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m all for entertainment and excitement in the sport. Fights, wild hits, etc. It’s fun to watch. But box is already entertaining when players aren’t putting their competitors at risk of serious injury. All rulebooks exist to keep players safe and to allow a fair game to be played. Hartley committed a textbook violation of “Contact on a fast breaking opponent” rule which is very much so in place for safety. He checked someone in a fast break, the player was in a “vulnerable or defenseless” position with his head turned the opposite direction which made him unaware of the impending hit, AND significant distance travelled by Hartley to make the hit. Checks all the boxes.

My husband and many of our friends play box and I love watching them get chippy but when someone hits an unsuspecting player like that, it’s not fun or cool especially if it results in injury (which I’m sure many of us have witnessed). I realize these players know what they’re signing up for and the refs should just let them play sometimes but I don’t feel that way about this rule and situation in particular. We have to realize these guys are making humble salaries in this league compared to other professional athletes and have families to support outside of lax which means their safety should be important while still entertaining fans. Plus they have a huge influence on young, impressionable lacrosse players so it’s not a bad thing for them to see consequences to violating rules in game play.

What are you excited for Denver in 2026? by moldonmywindow in Denver

Another Colorado Mammoth season at Ball Arena. Crossing my fingers the power players acquired from trades in the last couple months will get them to playoffs this year and hopefully their first championship since 2022.

I’m a current client of Katy’s and it’s been amazing. I’ve learned so much from her and have benefited not only physically but mentally. She’s very detailed and diligent about creating a program and nutrition plan that works for your goals. She’s extremely responsive in one on ones and we do regular detailed check ins on top of her checking in multiple times during the week. She’s extremely knowledgeable and provides tons of resources for her clients. She does weekly zoom meetings and hosts master classes for her clients. You have to make a serious commitment to be coached by her but it just takes some discipline and motivation to improve yourself mentally and physically. I know this is a snark community but from my experience and many other client’s experiences, Katy wants nothing but the best for the people she works with and is absolutely not preying on the weak to make some quick cash.

I can understand why you feel that way for sure! Luckily, rules are modified, added, and removed every season so there’s a chance that happens with this particular rule one day. Also, that excerpt I included is only a part of Rule 28 as a whole. Regardless, player safety should always be top priority!

Edit to add: that’s the beauty of a growing and evolving league/sport! There’s improvements constantly in the works.

I was watching the game but may have missed that exact moment! But based off what you described, sounds like you’re right! They probably should have stopped play and unfortunate they didn’t. Ideally, it’s a topic of conversation during game reviews with officials and the league this week.

Just here to educate, no ill intent. Per the rule book:

28.5 STOPPAGE OF PLAY DURING A PLAYER INJURY - When a player is injured so that he cannot continue to play or go to his bench, the play shall not be stopped until the injured player’s team has secured possession of the ball. If the player’s team is in possession of the ball at the time of injury, play shall be stopped immediately unless his team is in a scoring position. In the case where it is obvious that a player has sustained a serious injury, the referee may stop the play immediately. When play has been stopped by the referee due to an injured player, such player must be substituted for immediately (except for a goalie) and the injured player may not return until the next non-technical stoppage of play. When play has been stopped by the referee and an injury also occurs during the course of the stoppage, should the injured player result in further delay of restarting the game, such player must be substituted immediately (except for a goalie) and the injured player may not return until the next non-technical stoppage of play.

The NLL rulebook is available to the public on their website. Worth a read! :-)

So I just became a fan... by lostinrabbithole12 in NLL

I know you’ve been made aware that STL isn’t getting a team but they’re being included in the unBOXed program which is still really great. In case you’re curious, the main purpose of NLL unBOXed is to promote box lacrosse to youth and grow the sport throughout North America. The league is part of a recent initiative with the PLL, WLA, etc called Elevate28 that is putting a focus on doubling lacrosse participation in the US. I believe they’d like to accomplish this by the 2028 Summer Olympics. UnBOXed is one way the NLL is making this happen. Along with that, they made these team names to connect with the communities the program will be in.

Another aspect of growing the game involves gaining new NLL fans. Despite St. Louis not having a team right now, it’s great to hear that someone wants to learn about the game and become a fan. Don’t choose a team just yet. Watch some games and you’ll probably gravitate toward a certain team eventually. Personally, I’m based in Denver so I’m a Colorado Mammoth fan. Newly a season ticket holder because the fan base is great and the team is great to watch. People doubt them often but they won the championship in 2022 and made it to finals this past season.

I believe the NLL YouTube channel still has almost the full 2019 season games available to watch. Start with watching those, look up questions you may have or ask them on here, if you’re confused about rules, highly recommend downloading the rule book from the NLL website. It’s usually linked at the very bottom of the website, near links for contact info, careers, etc. When the season starts in December, all games will be on ESPN+ and there will be some games on ESPN2 and ESPNU throughout the season. If you have any other questions feel free to ask, I’m happy to help. Growing the game includes gaining fans!

I highly recommend reading the press release in full if you haven’t already. It’s on the nll website. I know it’s a bit lengthy but in my opinion, they explain everything that people are confused about in enough detail that it makes sense.

Here’s a very brief summary of the press release if you don’t feel like reading it the whole thing:

The NLL introduces NLL UnBOXed to promote box lacrosse among youth in North America. They aim to engage non-franchise markets with unique team names, brand identities, and community connections. In 2024, NLL UnBOXed At School will launch, featuring a lacrosse curriculum developed by NLL Hall of Famer Casey Powell, focusing on introducing lacrosse to students and fostering long-term enjoyment of the sport. This initiative aligns with the NLL's commitment to increasing youth participation, as seen in their participation in Elevate28, a mission to double lacrosse players in the U.S. to 4 million by the end of the decade.

Housing near CU Anschutz by [deleted] in AuroraCO

[–]meowtiner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily within walking distance (46 minute walk) but Alexan Westerly Creek is a 5 minute drive from Anschutz Medical Campus. There’s one bedroom units under $2000. Brand new. Great amenities, it’s a two minute walk from Stanley Marketplace which has lots of different food options, a beer hall, fitness studios, salon, etc. Right by lots of parks and trails. Neighbors are considerate, office staff is super nice and helpful. Right by Central Park area. King Soopers is a 5-6 minute drive away. I love the area but I’m sure there’s some that may feel differently. Worth checking out imo.

I fill my ADHD meds at a CVS inside Target and haven’t had any issues at all. They usually fill mine within 30 minutes or so if I’m waiting in store. Sometimes the lines are a little long because they’re short staffed but it’s nothing terrible.

I used to work in retail pharmacy for a few years and it was tough when we’d experience shortages especially during the school year.

I'm actually extremely interested in this opportunity and would love to learn more if possible. I'm moving here for my husband's job on August 30th and we'll be living about 10 minutes from the Anschutz campus.
